Could be great, but...

Phone could be great, but they made some bad decisions in the software. Forcing the date and google search bar on the home screen is super annoying. Bad fingerprint recognition. No facial recognition. Having to go through settings to make the power button actually be a power buttonI have been with android since the HTC dream, and I stuck with it due to the ability to customize it how you wanted. It seems like google is deciding to try and be like apple by forcing you to use it how they think you should use it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

For me, the biggest drawback on the Pixel 6 is the fingerprint reader, (especially with a glass screen protector installed). I am only able to get it to work about 50% of the time (even after turning on the increased screen sensitivity setting and re-doing my fingerprint imprint several times). The reader seems to work only when my finger/thumb is aligned in a very particular way with the reader, and I am pressing down hard on the screen. (I miss the old capacitive reader.) I also wish that the phone was a bit smaller and lighter and that it charged faster. The ultrawide and front cameras seem only average at best.Despite all of that, I am really enjoying this phone. The Pixel 6 is a big step forward for the Pixel line. The phone feels solid and premium. The new camera hardware (finally) is very welcome, and some of the AI improvements provided by Tensor are so useful and a lot of fun (like speech-to-text). To get a phone of this quality at this price point is simply amazing.
It's a great phone, the same size as my old Pixel 2XL. The screen is hi-res, very clear and vibrant. The camera takes amazing photos! So far, it's everything to be desired in an updated mobile phone!!
I had read about some initial issues with the phone, but I hoped those would be fixed by the time I got it. They weren't. Android keeps restarting randomly: when opening Google Maps, when typing text messages, etc. The solution given in the Support page: uninstall your apps and install one by one, to find which could be causing the issue. If I had 10 apps, that would be okay. For anyone with more than 50 apps, that's unacceptable. Shouldn't the culprit just crash, without taking the whole phone to restart?I disliked that the default configuration of the "Power Button" was to activate the Google Assistant, rather than actually powering off the phone. I had do search online how to change that, just to be able to power off my phone. The camera is okay, somewhat underwhelming after using a Samsung phone with a camera app with more functionality. For its size, the phone feels heavy. I was expecting also more battery life.
I had the Pixel 5 and really liked it. I switched to a Pixel 6 Pro and was really disappointed. I disliked the size, curved screen, and the fingerprint scanner was very unreliable. I returned it and got the regular Pixel 6. I like it much better than the Pro. It's only slightly smaller but the flat screen is much nicer. The fingerprint scanner is still pretty bad but overall I prefer the Pixel 6 over the 6 Pro. I really miss the fingerprint scanner on the back though. I've always liked the Pixels better than the other brands because they were user friendly and convenient to carry in my pocket but now they don't seem any better than other phones.
So far haven't had any issues with my Pixel 6. I do have to say that I hope that Google would actually make the Pixel better by making one with a pen. A lot of phone users likes the pen for signing documents, drawing
