Maxed out at 48GB Ram with 16gb soldered to motherboard, should have been at least 64GB,
love the 3 x 1TB NVMe Raid configuration,
Good Graphics GTX 3080, should have been GTX 3080TI
HDMI is connected to Intel Graphics and not GTX, also not clearly labeled what USB-C port is connected to GTX graphics.
Keyboard Design is clearly designed to allow for more cooling.
My initial use of the ROG Zephyrus 17, I went about setting up the account and getting things updated. Part of that process was to make a backup of the factory restore partition. Connected a USB 3.1 32GB drive and had it complete overnight. It seemed to have completed the next morning, to ensure I had a good copy. I attempted to start up from that drive and see what options it showed. The option to restore from image file was missing. Thinking it was maybe an issue with the USB drive, grabbed another and attempted the process again, this time when trying with include system files it would fail. but if you unchecked that box it would complete ,but not show restore from image option. I started a chat with ASUS Tech support to ask if they had the image file available for download and that is when I was informed that ASUS no longer provides that service. I asked to have my issue elevated to a supervisor and not too long and I was connected to one. Who informed me that it sounded like my SSD’s might have a corrupted OS and that I could send the Laptop back to them to have them re-install the OS. First of all, I informed the supervisor that I would not be sending it back. That night I reset the laptop, but instead of using the what was on the restore partition, I told it to download the OS from the internet. Everything that was installed from the factory was there and once again attempted the build a restore USB drive, which it failed. So okay, no external copy of the factory image, but as long as the 3 times 1TB NVMe drives that are configured into a RAID drive don’t fail, you can still restore.
Bottom Line, Just like windows os, you should be able to download the image from ASUS and then using something like RUFUS to create the backup/restore drive that I wanted to do.
Ever since my initial chat with ASUS I have gotten several requests to provide my thoughts, at first wasn’t going to provide my issue, but though others might have similar issues and maybe it might help.

The advertising was extremely misleading. I suspect it was written for the first version of this laptop and then was never update. It emphasized upgradeability, pointing out that it had 3 "drive bays" and an SO-DIMM slot. What it failed to mention was that all of these are filled. So yes, you can upgrade, but only if you're willing to lose what's currently installed. It also fails to mention that the first 16GB of RAM is soldered to the motherboard, and that the DIMM slot can only handle a 32GB chip. A max of 48GB seems rather anemic in what's being called a "gaming" laptop.
The screen is beautiful. The 3840x2160 resolution looks amazing and when it's running a game it does so very well, at first.
The laptop is considerably thinner than my last 2 gaming laptops, and it seems that it's not letting air flow through properly. I was running an 8 year old game (Sniper Elite 3), and it was hitting 77C (170.6F) when the ambient temperature was under 70. It was so hot that I could feel the heat radiating through the case, and I was sweating. I've never had a laptop get this hot, and I was shocked when one of their techs told me that 77C is "normal", and that she didn't consider it overheating unless it exceeded 100C. That's 212F, or the temp that water boils at. You should be boiling water on your keyboard before this tech considered it an "issue".

Had a flickering of the screen and it was brand new, then when it would sleep, I would hit the mouse to start it back up and the screen would be black. I would have to turn in off and on for it to work. Great laptop once they figure out the glitches. They need to fix those, and it would be great. Because the games worked flawlessly. It was only videos it would flicker. Then sleep it wouldn't come on but a black screen. Too much money to deal with it. But if they fixed that, the laptop would be five stars

At first I was puzzled but now I am glad I chose this laptop over the other options on the market. Great specs, nice keyboard, and the support team is pretty awesome helping me with my questions about the computer.

I needed a unit that would allow me to create content ..videos and still photography, process music (live Anne studio) , perform business functions and of course, play games. This beast promises to do all.
I have been testing my Zephyrus s17 and am excited to only use one device instead of the 3 I have been using.
