Makes it possible for me to do so many things

Several years ago I was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. Yet, about a year ago when I was looking to start crafting (again after years away when I got diagnosed with my eye disease), I found this lamp. Because of this lamp I am able to create the most beautiful crafts and I am most proud of my Amigurumi. If it was not for this lamp, I could never crochet with any dark colors, use less than a size H hook and never have the confidence to get back on the horse and give it a go one more time. Then I found how useful this lamp is for reading medication directions, washing directions on new clothing, just anything you need to see better. For people with MD the light is extremely important to go along with the magnification. My only request would be a little bit larger circle of area and a little bit larger circle of area for the 4x. I can't say enough because the Ottlite changed my attitude, increased my confidence and now I am able to have more fun than any person should be allowed to have :-) while i work in my craft room.

Simply the best!

I received this as a gift from my darling husband. While there was a light next to me while I did my knitting and crocheting he noticed I was struggling to read my stitches and count my work. At first I thought why did he get this, I can see just fine, then he put it together and when I turned it on I realized what I was missing. My knitting has gotten even better because I can see not only my stitches but the yarn tones to better match the colors. I even use the magnifying lens to read needle sizes and smaller stitch work when using finer yarns. The light does not get hot, just very warm when touched but you don't get warm sitting under it for hours. Truly an amazing light! I still thank my hubby months later and thanks you for making this product, The light is well worth the price.

Can't work without this light

I must have had this model for over 20 years. I didn't know at the time I purchased it how invaluable it would be. I haven't even changed the bulb! My only complaint is that the poll is in sections that you screw together. Over time the connection seems to weaken so we sliced a piece of PVC pipe and wrapped it around the pole and secured it with a couple of zip ties. Fortunately the PVC pipe is a similar colour as the pole so it's not too obvious.

Can't do without it

I use this lamp for light when doing counted cross stitch or crocheting. You can direct light on your work without the other people in the room having to be in bright light. The light is bright and true. It does not change colors as some liCNN hts do. You see actual colors of things much easier under this light. I am actually looking into getting more ottlites in my home.

No more eye strain!

I bought this lamp so that I could crochet in the living room while watching TV with the family and because having the overhead light on made a glare on the TV. This lamp is slim and fits nicely in the corner behind the couch. When not in use, I can swing the lamp and magnifier to the size and it is out of the way. As a bonus, the gray/white lamp color just happens to match our living room. After just one night of use, I noticed no eye strain and was able to crochet even longer than usual because of it. The bulb was not hot and having the on/off switch on the top of the lamp instead of on the cord makes it so convenient to use and keep in the corner behind the furniture- hate those lamps where you have to pull up the cord just to turn them off or on. I first considered the lamp a little pricey, but being able to crochet for longer times without a headache from squinting is well worth the price. I would love to test another lamp for Ottlite at any time- just send me one! ;)

Inflexible neck a Downer

The bragging about the flexible neck of this lamp is not just exaggerated but a half truth. The neck itself does adjust height but the hard plastic casing cracks in multiple places with every touch exposing the inner side. This may be dangerous but it certainly is unsightly. Why not use a different material for the casing, softer and truly flexible for this moving piece?
I would recommend this to a friend!

Really wanted to like this but I need more magnification. I reached out to customer support for a replacement as it was scratched and they were super fast in sending a replacement but they didn’t even acknowledge my question about purchasing a stronger magnification. I have a table lamp which I love, but I can’t use with larger projects so I bought the floor lamp thinking I was getting the same magnification. I’d recommend if you don’t need much magnification.
