2.5 year old (and 30 year old) approved!

My son has been getting into trains lately, and as someone who grew up on Thomas I've been just as excited as he has been whenever we get a new set. And this one right here blew both of our minds. I'll try to break down our experience with it thus far.
Assembly: directions were easy to follow, everything fit together nicely as well. Tiny, and I do mean tiny gripe is that I didn't think the instruction on where to put the stickers was clear for some of the odd ones, but oh well, I'll squeeze around everything and put them on later.
Ease of use: as the title said my son is 2 and a half, but all the stops and levers and even the main crane are easy enough to operate for him to handle.
Contents: ok, this thing isn't a "put it together while the kids want it together then rebuild later" sort of deal. I honestly believe this thing could withstand a nuclear blast, and may well outlast humanity in terms of durability. It's closer to a piece of furniture in how large and sturdy it is. This isnt a complaint, just a statement of fact. We love big toys, so this is amazing.
Moving forward: Not only is it large and in charge, it also has a good variety of ways to hook into other playsets or to build off of it. This is going to be THE hub for everything we do from now on.

10/10 I'm thankful that there's a toy this awesome out there, and I'm jealous of my kid since I didn't have this when I was his age.

Hours of interaction play!

Kids love it. The tracks on right side has to have plastic plate under it or train pops of track. The tracks don’t seem to line up correctly.

One year later and still a favorite

As other reviewers have stated, this is a large and durable toy. We got this for our grandson last Christmas and he has not lost interest yet. He was almost 3 at the time we purchased it and fully expect him to continue playing with it into his 4th year. His 18 month old little sister is now learning how to play with it, so we purchased a specific train just for her (we are working on sharing…haha). This is by far the most popular toy that we have purchased. Zero regrets on this purchase and thankful it has entertained them for so many hours.

Dangerous product

I bought this for my grandson for Christmas. As he was playing with it,he got his elbow stuck in the top of it. Luckily my son was home because he had to take the screws out of it before grandson broke his arm. If it would have been that he was with the babysitter, he would have probably been in severe trouble.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Terrible Design

The chains are a terrible design. The chains are solid plastic and kids snap them off easily and are then sad that their toy is broken. Did no one actually test this with a child?

Poor quality and doesn't work

Very disappointed. The turning piece on crank doesn't not line up on one side and gets jammed and doesn't open on the other side. Our son has been asking for cranky for weeks and was so excited for his new train set. You could imagine the disappointment for mom and dad when we had to tell him that it doesn't work. For the cost of this product, I expect the thing to work.

Disaster of a toy! Train keeps derailing on same spots because the plastics are not aligning properly. The platform that rotates just doesn't work at all its getting stuck, latch is not opening. QC of Mattel toys is attrocious and I will not buy again

Great features and lots of fun!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] From closed box to fully built, best toy. Box has all character names and eye catching images. There are many pieces, but the easy to read, step by step large color pictures made it really simple to build. My 5yr old & 7yr old could follow the directions and help put it all together. Parts are durable and colorful. From any angle it can be played and features overall are awesome. Thomas moves on his own even when Percy or other carts attached. Kids still spends hours playing with it. Definitely recommend!
