[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Good little laptop for occasional travelers or people that really just take it back and forth to home. Nice and lite weight.

Initial impressions (E14 Gen 3 AMD Ryzen 7 5700U)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was able to optimize the laptop build to suit my purposes (aside from the amount of RAM that was soldered to the motherboard). It's a good low cost laptop (after applying the relevant discount codes) that should last me for a while.
My only complaints (thus far) about the laptop (aside from the soldered 8GB RAM) are that (1) Lenovo Vantage insists on updating weekly/monthly and (2) the convoluted way the function keys are activated.
First, I do not want to have to update my laptop on a weekly/monthly basis. But Lenovo Vantage (and the "geniuses" at Lenovo) think that frequent updates are a good thing. As with most end users, I want a laptop that runs well and needs minimal maintenance (including updates) and then only for absolutely critical matters.
As for the function keys, it takes too many steps to activate any given function. Not only does one have to press the Function Lock key, but the s/he has to press both the Function (Fn) key and the appropriate function (F1-F10) key simultaneously. Pressing the Function Lock key should automatically lock the keyboard so that pressing any of the function keys results in the assigned function. (Lenovo clearly knows how to set up a keyboard such that the Fn key doesn't need to be pressed once the Function Lock key is activated, since this is the way the Lenovo Thinkpad wired keyboard works.) Additionally, it would be pressing the Fn key along with a function key should result in the assigned function taking place (without first needing to press the Function Lock key).
Aside from the foregoing, thus far, I really like my new Lenovo E14 Gen 3 AMD. I had it built with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPU (the fastest CPU option here) and maxes out the RAM (8GB +16GB), and a 512GB SSD. I opted for the 250 nit display, which in retrospect, I should've upgraded to the 300 nit display. However, as I did not want the IR camera, I (mistakenly) opted for the 250 nit display. I also opted not to have a fingerprint reader as well as not to have a backlit keyboard. I'm comfortable with these latter decisions.
I haven't pushed the laptop, yet, having only installed an anti-virus, firewall, VPN, and some other basic software. I suspect the laptop should be able to handle anything I throw at it fairly easily, since I will be using it for office work purposes.

Great Value for Price

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Keyboard keys are large enough for easy typing. Backlite keyboard is helpful. Software is fast enough for general use. Storage is 1TB and ram is 16GB takes a lot of storage for the price.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are delighted with the speed with which our new laptop arrived. Transferring from the old to the new was done with ease. The picture and the sound are both crystal clear. I could not ask for anything more.

great machine; a few minor improvements suggested

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After years of using Macbooks, I decided to give the Thinkpad another chance. I love the Trackpoint, which I have always referred to as the "nipple mouse." However, I had a number of problems with my original (year 2000) Thinkpad from the start. This time, I am impressed and am pleased with my purchase, though there is room for improvement in a few areas.
Positives:
1) Performance is great.
2) The machine was well designed overall. The outer surfaces have a metal covering. This isn't quite the tank that the Macbook Pro is, but if you've ever dropped a Macbook Pro on your toe, you'll appreciate the balance that Lenovo has struck. In my opinion, the balance between ruggedness, weight, and cost is just right with this Thinkpad.
3) Ergonomics are great overall. Again, the Trackpoint (nipple mouse) was a factor in my purchase. The keyboard overall has a good feel to it. The keys have perhaps more curvature to them than most, but I have no complaints.
Negatives:
1) Louder speakers would be helpful. While this machine is aimed at business users, there are relevant work needs for sufficient speakers. I had someone join a Zoom meeting sitting next to me, and we could barely hear over a somewhat loud air conditioner, despite the sound being set at max volume.
2) More ports -- a second USB-C for accessories and a microSD card reader would be quite helpful. My cheap 11" Chromebook has more ports than this 14" Thinkpad.
3) I do a lot of Unix/Linux work over terminals, and I'm not fond of the keyboard layout, though I think I can customize things a bit when I find a chance to do so (like swapping the left Fn and Ctrl keys).
Overall:
This is a great machine for the price, and I would make the same purchase again. To top it off, Lenovo support was extremely helpful and responsive during my purchase.
