Worth the investment

This one replaced a 15 year old bottom freezer of a different brand. The new one has some nice features such as the information bar at the top of the refrigerator that lets you adjust the temps of the refrigerator & freezer. The ice maker has a convenient on/off switch since it produces more ice than we regularly use. The door shelves are deeper, thus more things get put on the door.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Extremely NOISY
on September 2, 2022

I rent an apartment with this refrigerator, and besides the high rental price, the refrigerator noise is the only thing I dislike. The refrigerator makes a very loud noise all the time (the compressor fan in the freezer at the bottom keeps running all day every day), if you leave the door opened for a few minutes, the thing kicks all fans at full speed for hours. The temperatures are ok, the appliance refrigerates well, but my 'decades' older refrigerator does not make even half of the noise of this 'supposed' ultra-modern refrigerator does. I am very bothered and frustrated. I am an engineer and I know how consumer end products should be designed and tested. Here in the reviews they even acknowledge that they do not rate the noise levels in dB (of course, because then consumers would find out before buying them!) but the definitely should provide that information because us the consumers will be hearing this all day, especially now with this new 'normal' working from home. It is so loud that even with headphones on I can hear how low it is. The unit does not show you when it will shut off, or for how long it has to run this loud. I highly recommend that you look for another refrigerator model that makes less noise than this one. Message for GE engineering:: running the compressor longer for energy-saving purposes and multiple fans at full speed does not justify sacrificing user comfort; you guys are paid for coming up with a design that balances those trade-offs, I spend hours learning and trying things in my job in order to provide good solutions in the stuff that I make/design, please do that as well. I have now spend several hours researching technicians biogs and reading users manuals just to find out that I should fully load the refrigerator and those super loud nosies are "normal".

Response from geappliances.comBy Pablo@GEAGE AppliancesSeptember 19, 2022
Hello there - we're happy to see that you rated this unit high on appearance. At the same time, we're sorry that your experience with this refrigerator hasn't been what you expected.

Most modern refrigerators with more storage space and a larger freezer require more operating time, and they start and stop often to maintain even temperatures. We do recommend checking that the doors are properly sealed when they are closed to guarantee that the temperature inside the unit isn't affected.
We also recommend referencing the following article to learn more about common refrigerator sounds: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=15901

While we noticed that the refrigerator came with the apartment you're renting, we still recommend scheduling a service appointment for one of our qualified technicians to assess your unit. You can schedule an appointment by calling us at: 1-800-432-2737, or online here: https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm

Please know you can always find us on social media if there are other questions or concerns we can assist you with.
Take care.

Well executed, well enginered and just well done

Unpacking was a little with all the packing that was done, but all for good reason. Not a mark on anything when all was said and done.
Ended up having to change the way the door opened and was surprised at how much thought and engineering went into re-using the same parts and making sure they were easy to put back on in reverse and still have an airtight seal.
Quietest fridge I've ever owned. Looks slick. Lots of room and the optional ice maker works like a charm.
Would've been nice if the bottom freezer drawer came out a little more to facilitate accessing items a little easier, but this is my only qualm.
Would not hesitate to buy another GE or recommend it to friends and family.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hi, and thanks for leaving a review. We're happy to hear that you like your refrigerator's appearance and features but apologize for any inconvenience you have dealt with.

You may hear the fans spinning at high speeds. This happens when the refrigerator is first plugged in, when the doors are opened frequently or when a large amount of food is added to the refrigerator to maintain the correct temperatures. The fans change speeds in order to provide optimal cooling and energy savings. Here is a link for more information on the refrigerator operating sounds. https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-1000472-5.pdf&_ga=2.160842493.1164857730.1670613518-210702176.1667592344 -- We hope this helps. Great Refrigerator
on December 14, 2016

from Hartford, CT
I purchased this GE model a month ago and am very happy with it. It is very roomy in the refrigerator and in the door shelves. The latter is well-made and solid (unlike my last fridge which just had bars across the shelves and slender bottles would slip out and hit the floor- or your foot -when you opened the door!). I like having the freezer on the bottom. It doesn't seem to hold quite as much, but it is much easier to find everything. I would have given 5 stars but it is slightly noisy when it cycles; very quiet when it's not.

I liked it when I got it, but after 2 months a Freon leak caused it to stop cooling. Now I’m in the middle of a repair process that’s going on 4 weeks.

Will wake you up at night.

Worst product you can think of. It is so noisy (63dB) that it will wake you up at night! It’s humming and rattling and GE won’t do anything about it since they consider it a NORMAL noise. And with no noise specifications they can say whatever the hell they want.

Hi there, and thanks for submitting your feedback on this model. We truly hate to hear you are dissatisfied with the noise level of the refrigerator; we understand that may be an inconvenience. This certainly isn't the great ownership experience we strive to provide.

Your concerns will be communicated to our Design team for future review and development; we truly value your insight, as we always want to be aware of any issues our consumers experience.

Because of added features and technology, it is common for newer models to be a bit louder than the older models you might be used to. If it may be helpful, we do have a description of what sounds are considered normal for your refrigerator on page 42 of your manual. We also have an article discussing expected refrigerator noises here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=15901 .

We hope this information is useful for you, and we will strive to earn back your faith in our brand going forward. If you have any other inquiries or concerns, we are glad to assist any time. -Sarah@GEA

Disturbing whining
on April 6, 2023
Posted by: Going Insane

This would be a great fridge freezer except for the disturbing noise it makes 50% of the time, day and night. It whines so loudly, I play music or wear earplugs all day to drown it out. Having just moved into my first house away from the city seeking peace and quiet, this is making me miserable. GE tech told me it's normal. Loud whining that disturbs you even behind a closed door, is normal?
