Amazing panel, weak trim

I rolled the dice on an open box item, and was a little concerned that it had been returned due to dead pixels, backlight bleed, or weird calibration. But I've been using this monitor for a couple of months now and it's terrific.
First thing's first, the panel is amazing and it's really what matters. I overclocked it to 170 hz and use the built-in "racing" mode. The colour is phenomenal and I get no weird visual artifacts, no flickering, no blurr. A++. I also tested for backlight bleed and found virtually nothing, which was a very pleasant surprise. Even the IPS glow is very minimal. Furthermore, 0 stuck or dead pixels, and I'm just overall extremely impressed with the panel.
The stand is mostly great, in that the feet are entirely made of steel or aluminum and it plants very firmly on my desk. I actually use the stand instead of my monitor arm because of how solid it is. Though the primary pillar is oversized, clad in plastic, and shoots red led's out of the bottom for some reason. Thankfully, you can disable the LED, and I was even able to remove the red plastic appliques on the base.
Now, I have some petty gripes as well, and they are all related to the design, trim, and casing of the monitor. First of all, the design is very "gamer", which yes, I know, it is a gaming monitor, but that doesn't mean that it needs to have red plastic and led's all over it. It's seriously an abomination and I almost returned the monitor because of this. I know, "Who cares?", but I'm not a 14 year old kid, I use this monitor for my home office and also to play games with when I'm not working. Thankfully you can remove / deactivate just about all of the red led's and red plastic trim.
My biggest gripe: the back of the monitor and the buttons all feel extremely cheap and flimsy, it reminds me of some kind of $100 off-brand monitor. Really disappointing for a monitor of this price. I had a Samsung cf791 ultrawide before this monitor, and the casing was much thicker and sturdier, and the thumbstick used for navigation felt leagues ahead in terms of overall quality and durability.
Overall, I bought this monitor because I wanted a 1440p / 144hz - 170hz panel with stellar colours, and that's exactly what I got. So despite it's aesthetic short-comings and cheap plastic casing, the panel really does not disappoint, and for that reason, I give it a 4.5/5

Amazing Monitor

At first I was hesitating to buy this monitor because people were saying they have a high chance of coming with stuck or dead pixels. I was lucky enough to get it with no issues whatsoever! It’s looks great, the quality is amazing. Only thing is that the 170hz is a overclock. Factory settings is 144hz max. 165 is fine and you won’t see flicker but you might see some with 170hz. Other then that it’s an amazing monitor

Great monitor, if you win panel lottery

Came with 4-5 stuck pixels with few around it randomly acting up. I would be returning the unit. And dead pixel/stuck pixel issue seems to be fairly common(from the reviews) with this monitor. If you win the panel lottery with this monitor its absolutely amazing looking

it's 144hz, because display port 1.2, hdmi 1.4

Good Monitor but can only do 144hz even though it says 170hz at 1440p because it only has Display port 1.2 instead of 1.4 or HDMI 1.4 instead of 2.0
Both of these only support 144 hz at 1440p

Weird signal issues

I would've loved this monitor if it weren't for bizarre issues. Display signal would crash whenever I tried to play Blizzard titles. The biggest one was StarCraft 2. Asus customer support wasn't helpful. Issue was replicated on two different purchases of the same monitor. I returned both of them.

Compared to the PG279Q, the color is not quite as good out of the box. You need to spend some time with the adjustments before it can be better. Finally settled on Gamma 2.5 HDR off and Racing Mode.
Also, it took many tries before I can see 170 Hz on Windows 10 Pro Nvidia Control Panel. Make sure when you adjust the Monitor to 170 Hz, slide the stick to the right to reboot the monitor.
