Prior to purchasing this chainsaw, I had borrowed a Greenworks trimmer from a neighbor, as my old one had finally bit the dust. I was apprehensive with using battery-powered yard tools, but upon using the trimmer, I was instantly sold. I dropped it back off, thanked my neighbor, and promptly purchased the trimmer.
Shortly after ordering the trimmer, I decided to order the chainsaw, as I have wanted one but hadn't previously purchased one.
I don't really have a need for a chainsaw on a regular basis, but there are times when these old trees fall in our neighborhood and I feel useless because I can't help move them from the streets.
No more. Since purchasing the chainsaw, I eagerly awaited the chance to use it. Lo and behold, I was given that chance a few weeks back after a gnarly windstorm knocked down and old tree behind a couple of our houses.
I promptly chugged my coffee and got to work. Using the chainsaw to trim the tree was like cutting through butter with a knife made of lava. It was dreamy. It was perfect. And oh so quiet!
I am sold on Greenworks. These tools are rad, and I will be recommended them to everyone forever.

Long battery life. Keep screwdriver handy to tighten chain frequently. Sawed through 14" branch, 13" trunk, many 8" buckthorns.

Don't let the 18" or 80v fool you. This thing is a fantastic size for an all-purpose chainsaw. It's light, has all the power you would need and is amazingly quiet. It does just as well as my previous name brand gas chainsaw. I have done tree work at 7-8 pm in the summertime without bothering my neighbors and that is a true joy. I'm a musician too so having quiet efficient tools is so refreshing. No gas to mix, no adjustment tool to lose or remember, (its neatly tucked inside the handle) unlike gas chainsaws where you have to bring your mix gas and tool into the woods. Not sure what else to say. It's a great tool and won't let you down. You can use the 2 AH battery to make the saw lighter for limb work or you can slip a 4 AH or higher for a little more weight to help with cutting and longer run times. Run time is very efficient. Chain automatically stops when releasing trigger, this is really nice if your constantly putting the chainsaw down on the ground. No idle chain still moving and vibrating and getting dirt in it like a gas chainsaw. Oh also it starts every time ;).

The battery lasts and the ease of use makes it superior to our gas powered chainsaw. This chainsaw starts right up and cuts well. It uses minimal bar and chain oil.

Purchased my 18" chainsaw a couple of years ago. Works great. I use it at the hunting club property and at home. Would recommend to everyone if looking to purchase battery operated chainsaw. Also have one of the 40v chainsaws and I recommend it also.

While the Greenworks cordless chainsaw is easy to use and quiet, it is very frustrating and time consuming to have the chain keeping falling off after 10 minutes..

I like the power , the quick start , stop operation . I like the ease of the battery power , no messing with two cycle engine . But after a half hour of operation the chain pops off the bar from cutting branches, even if the correct tension is on the chain !! I've cut down an estimated 200 trees every year for the past 20 years, so I'm experienced at operating a chainsaw , but keeping the chain on the bar is very difficult with this saw !!

Hello,
Thank you for your honest review! We are sorry to hear that you have experienced an issue with the chain not staying on. Its important to remember that new chains tend to stretch; so be sure to check the chain tension frequently and tension as required. However, be sure to never tension a warm chain before storing as chains shrink when cooling and this can damage the chain, bar, and saw. Please ensure that when you remove the side cover the following parts are there and in order: sprocket (chain wheel), chain wheel washer, and finally the c-clip/retaining ring. These parts are imperative when it comes to keeping the chain on. If you notice any of these parts missing or you are still experiencing issues, please contact our helpline at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). We would be happy to look into this!
