Disappointed with quality and functionality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our family loves to watch movies, so I was excited to give this iLive Sound Bar a try. I had never heard of this brand before so I kept and open mind in trying it out.
The 40 inch sound bar came in a sturdy box. It was well packaged to protect it from any possible damage. All of the extras that you would possibly need come included, such as a wall mount, remote control, RGA cables and optical cable.
I’m fairly good with electronics, so the setup was very easy for me. I set it up with a Vizio TV. I used the RGA cable to plug it into the TV and also set it up to Bluetooth. For someone who isn’t as tech savvy, I can see them having difficulties in trying to set it up. It does come with fairly clear instruction though to help you out.
I ran into my first issue after the setup. The remote didn’t work well for me. I made sure the battery was good and nothing was blocking the remote from reaching the sound bar. Still, I had to press the buttons several times to get the sound bar to respond. I’m not sure if it was the remote, the sound bar, or even the tv, but I still can’t get the remote to work well even to this day. I just use the buttons on the sound bar itself most of the time.
For the sound quality, I didn’t think it was all that great. We watch a ton of movies and sports and like to crank the volume up. I thought the bar had trouble with clarity when it was turned up loud. At lower volumes, it sounded ok, but the reason you get a sound bar is to have louder and clearer sound.
I played with the Bluetooth functionality and that worked fine. Connecting, and staying connected was easy and I never ran into any issues with that.
Overall, this sound bar is just ok. The remote control not working great was a huge disappointment for me. Also, at louder volumes, the sound isn’t that great. If you want a simple sound bar to give you a small boost of sound, this may be for you. If you want a serious sound bar to give you the best and ultimate experience, I wouldn’t go with this one.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Decent sound, simple setup

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sound bar is so easy to set up, you'll have it installed and operating in no time. Works seamlessly with my smart tv, and I had no trouble at all pairing it with a Bluetooth device. I love that they include an optical cable, I just wish it was a bit longer. Also remember to remove the tiny plastic protective tips on the ends of the optical cable. It won't insert into the slot properly otherwise. Audiophiles won't be impressed with the sound, but it's a great value if you aren't sure you want to invest in a high end home theater system. Great for anyone looking to inexpensively improve and enhance their tv and listening experience.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just got it, not a lot of bass which is actually perfect for me. The voice coil is amazing, I can actually hear my TV!!! (I have some hearing loss.) I'm really wanting to get another one of these for my Dad, he has the same problem I do and had a hard time hearing stuff and there's too much bass pushing through his sound bar so he sits there with the captions on to read the screen. Definitely would recommend!!!
