Accidentally appropriate

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was hesitant to drop the $$ on this bottle but I lost my usual water bottle so I thought, why not see what the hype is about? It does many things well but I'm not sure it's worth the price. First, the temperature control. I've tried hot and cold liquids and this thing definitely maintains the temperature as advertised. Cold liquids stay cold longer than hot stays hot. Second, I've had this for about 1-2 weeks now and can't really say anything about the UV light preventing any smell in the bottle but so far so good (also perfect in time to kill any coronavirus lingering in my water). Third, I got the black and it looks mighty fine. It's caught many eyes and has gotten several compliments. So far, 5 stars.
Negatives:
1) durability. To mirror a few of the reviews, the outside metal of this bottle is as fragile as glass. I dropped it on carpet and already had a small dent. Dropped it again on concrete this time and the outside paint is scraped with residual metal spikes that are painful to touch. Didn’t buy the protective sleeve but not sure if that would even help if carpet alone could damage it. Down to 3 stars.

2) the odd manufacturing smell. I can't even describe it, it's a smell I've never smelled before. Some cross between rusting metal and a rotten egg if that makes sense. It was quite potent for me and made drinking water actually unpleasant. Oddly enough, I had kept hot green tea in my bottle for ~12 hrs which took the smell completely away when soap and water (repeatedly) did not. Reluctantly going back up to 4 stars.
TLDR: an aesthetic bottle that is definitely stylish and does all the things the ads say it does. However, the build quality leaves much to be desired and the UV technology alone does not justify the price given the above. Real score would be 3.5 stars ONLY because the smell somehow was fixed. Otherwise, 2.5-3 stars.
