I’ve now used it a few times and keep getting surprised how accurate it is. It has a miss read here and there, but all in all it’s great. Very simple to set up.
The Garmin R10 is a product that you should only inside. Too many issues in trying to set-up in a basement or garage. Many things can interfere with how the doppler works like metal, concrete, heating system, and other environmental conditions. You have to play around with heights, aligment, distances to the net and R10, and others to make it work. It does work pretty well at the range or outside. The range software that comes with the unit is not very good, so you have to buy Awesome golf or other software to make the metrics work even when hitting indoors or outdoors. I am still using the R10 for outdoor use, but bought another unit for inside use.
I used for the first time Saturday, primarily to learn how to operate it with my phone, etc. In short order, I managed to get it aligned and placed within the detection parameters. After that, it performed as designed. The graphics in the app displayed very clearly and legibly on my phone screen. I didn't have a chance to really determine the accuracy of the stats versus what my eyes, range markers, and feel were telling me. But I sense that all will be good. Happy with the prospects for dialing in my clubs.
For reference, I'm using the R10 with a Spornia 8 net in a garage. Distances are OK when I raise the elevation and temperature, if I don't do this, drives are off by about -25yds verified at course and range. The app is OK, I don't use their paid service as I find that "Awesome Golf" is better. The "E6 Connect" free courses that Garmin gives you are pretty good but a pain to connect if you're using a PC. Running from an iPad or iPhone is easier but an iPad unfortunately doesn't project full screen on my monitor, only 4:3. I've heard that Garmin is no longer updating software/Firmware for this as there new product came out. This is a shame if its true, I'd like to see some better implementation in the app regarding navigation, settings. etc. and it would sure be nice to be able to have settings to change distances by percentage instead of having to mess with altitude and temperature to get it correct. Also, a bit of a pain that when you plug the unit into a USB cord, it powers on and you have to power it off if you want it to charge faster. Battery life is excellent, BTW.
Just started using this. Helping me dial in all of my clubs without having to leave the house and use the balls I use on course. Simple set up outside.
I’ve had this R10 for about 2 months. It is a great buy. It gives lots of information to help with your swing and game. My only negative is when you are chipping from 15 yards or closer it does not always read. Sometimes takes multiple tries and end up hitting more than 15 yards to get it to read. Otherwise it is excellent
For the cost, this is definitely a great value. Easy to set-up, easy to use, and the data returned is accurate and very helpful. I use it every time I practice at the range and it has really helped me improve my swing.
