Tom, we are sorry that the germination rate of your Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Sun and Shade was unsatisfactory. There are a variety of factors that play a role in successful germination, and if even just one of these factors is not right the germination of the seed can be affected greatly. Here at Scotts, it is always our goal to produce the best products and we stand by the promises made in our advertisements. When a product is not working as expected, we want to hear from you in order to improve our services. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. We are sorry to hear about your experience with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Sun and Shade Mix. Browning of the grass can occur when fertilizer is added to a stressed lawn, due to extreme heat or lack of water, or if too much was applied. It is also possible the grass seed germinated and then began to brown due to the stress conditions mentioned above. We want you to be confident in our products and we stand by the promises made in our advertisements. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please call 888-270-3714, and reference this product review for assistance.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a large labrador retriever that creates a lot of urine spots in the back yard. The battle to patch and cover up the brown spots is never ending, but this Rapid Grass seed sure makes the war win-able. It might be the fastest germinating seed I have ever used, and I am glad of it!

Grows quick and green!!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Really easy to use grows fast. After having my pool built I used all of the fill dirt to level my yard. I did not want to spend the extra money to buy pallets of grass so decided to give this a shot. I used my Scotts’s spreader to apply the seed. I was really impressed with the overall outcome. I will say living in Texas the summer heat will take the life out of it if you don’t keep it watered, but overall a great product.
Our property is approximately 1/4 mile from the beach. Mostly Sandy soil and 3/4 of the lot is heavily wooded. We did not supplement the soil, only racked and germination has been fantastic! We’re very pleased so far! Waiting to see how the new grass holds up to summer heat and humidity.

Not quite what I expected

Selected this product after extended conversation with a Scott's customer svc. associate. Prepped the ground as directed, spread with a Scott's spreader using the advised setting, Watered 2x daily. Too many areas of ground where seeds did not germinate. Germination seems sporadic. Deciding to keep with Scott's or go with another product.

No Sprouts!

Did exactly as package suggested and not one sprout. I even put fresh soil on the lawn prior to seeding. No results! Very disappointed in this product.
Response from ScottsBy Consumer Services Admin, Customer Care, May 31, 2023
We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass and appreciate your feedback.
If temperatures have been lower than necessary for seed germination, the seed is still good and will most likely germinate once temperatures warm up. In the north, daytime temperatures need to consistently be 65+ degrees (18.3 Celsius) range. The warmer the soil, the better.
