I’m not impressed with Scott’s either. I thought they were the best but I was wrong. I put Kentucky Bluegrass on the front and the back last fall and I see no improvement. I’m very very disappointed ! The time , cost and effort I put intoto this was all a waste.

I put down 3 bags 2 weeks ago in the bald spots on my lawn, consistently watered, has been over 65 degrees consistently, yet there is no growth. I just did another bag today just to see if last times a charm.

Very nice grass seed I will buy more this fall

I planted the tall fescue last fall and it came up nicely. Now in the spring and early summer it looks like the rest of my grass. It blended well and is nice and mature. Other grasses I tried in the past would not look this good for another season. I like it.

Disappointed

I'm really disappointed in the quality of this seed. I had such high hopes. I laid down the seed and have been watering, but there has been zero growth. Bummer

Depending on conditions and the seed type, the grass can take from 7 to as many as 28 days to start to germinate. Germination requires air temperatures consistently above 65 degrees F. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used around the time of seeding, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge.

Not at all happy with this product.

I purchased this product two months ago to fill in some bare areas. First I applied 15 bags of Scott’s top soil raked it in and applied the Scott’s grass seed. Watered it twice daily for three weeks and the grass was growing nicely. As time went by, the grass appears to be turning brown and dying. My existing grass looks fine.

Poor germination for expensive seed
on September 30, 2024

Bought and applied to lawn following the package directions. Very poor germination rate. Watered daily for three weeks with poor outcome. Very disappointed with product. Overseeded with Pennington seed and had much better germination without watering daily. This is not the first time using Scott’s products with poor results. Either they have poor quality control or as selling outdated products.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Rapid Grass Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback.

You should start seeing germination in 14-21 days when applied at the new lawn rate, subject to proper care. For best results, apply when air temperatures are consistently between 60 - 80 degrees F. Proper watering is essential to seeding success.

My Grass Now Dead using Scotts Ultrafeed
on July 13, 2025
Posted by: Anonymous
I had a beautiful lawn until I feed it with Scotts Ultrafeed Now it's 100% brown and likely dead and not going to recover. Bought Ultrafeed on 5/7/25 and applied it. A month later it was all brown. I applied Scotts fungus control on 6/6/25 thinking there was a disease. No impact. Still brown on mid-July. Lawn is in a mild climate and watered three times weekly. Scotts used to be a quality product I applied over the years I advise you to take care in using Scotts products going forward.
