I thatched lawn really good, put the starter fertilizer down, bought a ground thermometer, roughed the soil up, sprinkled seed down probably heavier than I needed, then watered in. Watered in daily, but no, I didnt over water it!

We are sorry you are disappointed with your purchase of Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix. Under ideal growing conditions, you should see seedlings begin to emerge in 6-14 days. I can take a month for all the seed to germinate. If temperatures are fluctuating colder at night, this can delay germination. Weed control used in the area can also inhibit germination. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. At your earliest convenience, please contact us at http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5.

Failed Lawn

I started the process as soon as the ground was warm enough to germinate the seed did all the things the manufacturer recommended except I put down straw then watered 29,000 gallons of water plus the rain we had. All the time and money I put into my lawn I ended with very little tall fescue. Terrible!!!!!!! My question, how do I get my money back?

We hate to hear that you did not enjoy your experience with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. You can contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. Waste of money and time.

I always thought Scotts was a worthy name and products. They missed it on the Tall Fescue. The majority did not germinate and what little that did was very slow and to come up and mature with following the instructions and care. As the old saying goes "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". I'm done with Scott's products.

First excited, then very disappointed

I have purchased this product, as well as Scott’s Turf Builder Starter, for about 1.5 years to seed my lawn in the fall and spring. At the beginning, I was thrilled that the grass grew quickly and we were off to a great start for the first two months. However, after regular watering and additional fertilizer care, the grass gradually thinned out and I found myself exactly where I started. Also, although I avoided walking on most the grass for those months, the few parts where it was unavoidable, the grass thinned-out even more quickly.
NOTE: I spent money and time preparing and fertilizing the soil precisely as indicated by Scott’s in their posted information, and I also called them for additional advice. The only reason I give this review 2 stars instead of 1 star is because they were very nice on the phone.
SUMMARY: For all the time and money spent, I expected a tall fescue that, not only starts well, but has the strength to continue healthy and is moderately resistant to foot traffic. Scott’s needs to Design a better seed. This has been a frustrating and disappointing experience, and today at HomeDepot I met two other persons who had a similar experience- that is what prompted me to write this review.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The yard had some bare spots that really needed some help and was not surprised that Scotts has a good product like this seed. I did aerate and put down starter fertilizer and already have a whole bunch of new grass coming thru. It is filling in really nice. The dark green blades are blending in with the rest of the grass. You wont be disappointed. Don't forget to water every day until germinated.

Solid Performance Beneath a Norway Maple

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a giant Norway Maple that is wonderful for shade but rough on the grass beneath the canopy. With that being said, I have long accepted that my lawn under the tree is always going to be anemic. This seed has not solved the problem, but certainly has made a significant difference. The germination rate is solid and grew rather quickly.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Another quality Scott’s product. I reseeded a large very shady area under a oak . Very happy with the result. Grass is thick . Definitely would recommend for shady problem spots. I only use Scott’s products on my lawn.
