Grew thick and green grass where other seeds wouldn't. I have a nice shady spot in my lawn under some dogwoods and cherry trees, its a beautiful spot. But for years the grass was patchy. A few bags of this stuff and a little bit of top soil, and it is all green!
Pros: Effective

Had a rough winter this year and I have two very large dogs who tore up the lawn. Took those two problems as an excuse to patch/re-seed my lawn. Front and rear lawn are covered by trees of varying densities and see sunlight steadily for just a few hours a day.
Applied dense-shade mix as instructed after aerating and applying compost layer to lawn. I then fertilized with SCOTTS lawn-starter fertilizer. New seedlings started to appear after 2 weeks and everything looks fantastic now as I enter week 6 of project. Lawn is lush and green and looks like a carpet.
PRO TIP: Water every day. EVERY DAY. No excuses. You will see much better results.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Quality

Not the best grass seed

Purchased a bags of seed after clearing out a section of my yard. The brand and the statement on the bag which states seed thrives in summer conditions was what attracted me to the product. Followed the "simple steps for success" even went a step further and covered the seed in steer Manure. I watered daily twice/three times a day. Out of a 3lb bag I did not get one new blade of grass. 3 weeks later I went out and purchased a cheap bag of seed few bucks. Tilled the dirt and all the seed was in the dirt just as it was when I laid it down. Reseeded and the cheap seed grow in a few days.
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We are sorry to hear that the Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix did not have the yield you were expecting. It certainly can be frustrating to put the effort into seeding and then only see minimal results. Temperature does play a major role in all seeding endeavors. For Cool Season Grasses (Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and Fescue) Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees (+12.7 Celsius) for grass seed to germinate. The warmer the soil, the faster the germination. This generally requires daytime temperatures consistently in the 65+ degrees (18.3 Celsius) range.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently had to correct some drainage issues in front of my house. I used the grass seed as directed and the results were as great. The seed germinated in about 9 days and after about 3 weeks the grass is doing fine. I got a late start on this project but with another couple weeks of nice weather it should be fine for next year.
Pros: Effective, Quality

Worked great until summer heat killed new growth

Great product. Started it in mid-spring & it grew in thick until mid-summer temperatures (28-34 c) killed off most of the new growth. The area gets 2-3 hrs of late afternoon sun daily. Gonna try again in the early fall. Hope the winter won't kill off the fall growth.

Great grass, grows in DENSE shade

I live in St. Louis, Missouri with hot 90-100 degree summers, humid weather, and cold winters. My front lawn is shaded by huge sycamore trees, and gets essentially no direct sunlight. In addition there is a ornamental spruce tree in the front. This grass sprouted and is growing even under the spruce tree (ie, under the shade of TWO trees). I planted in early spring with a top coat of compost. Watered daily for about 5 minutes until 2 weeks after the grass sprouted. Had nice thick growth throughout the lawn, already on the third mowing. Love this grass so far! We will see how it makes it through a Midwest summer...
Pros: Value, Easy to Use, Quality, Good Directions, Effective

We apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced with the product. Here's just a few things to remember when applying your product. Most cool season grasses such as Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and Fescues will grow when soil temperatures are at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Under optimal conditions they usually take about 5-28 days. Warm season grasses when planted in the early summer generally germinate when soil temperatures are between 75-90 degrees fahrenheit. We hope this issue has not caused you to lose faith in our product, as we use reviews like yours to maintain and improve the quality product that you and other consumers have come to know and love.
