Spreader Setting Inaccurrate
on May 12, 2015
Posted by: LawnChief
This might be a good fertilizer if I could get it put down at the right rate. The spreader setting of 10.5 for Scotts Turf Builder Classic Drop Spreader does not put it down at the correct rate. Way too little comes out at this setting.
Cons: Difficult to use, Problem with label, spreader setting wrong
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We apologize that you did not get the proper coverage from your bag of Scotts Natural Lawn Food. The spreader setting that you used was correct. There are a few things that can affect the flow rate from the spreader, including calibration.

Put this product down because it had mild ratios and have pets and small kids. Applied per instructions on bag. Lawn yellowed several weeks after application and weeds have been worse than normal this summer. Did not get any of the desired strengthening and greening- the exact opposite.
Would not recommend this product for St. Augustine lawn in SOuth Florida.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry that you did not receive the fertilizer response that you expected from Scotts Natural Lawn Food. To get the most out of any fertilizer, we recommend that you maintain your lawn with adequate water and regular feedings. When mowing, remove no more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time.

If repeated applications of fertilizer fail to green the lawn, we recommend that you purchase a soil test kit to check the soil pH. Soil pH should be between 5.5 - 7.5 for lawns. If it is outside this range, add lime (to raise pH) or soil sulfur (to lower pH) at least once a year in spring or fall. A pH imbalance will prevent the lawn from absorbing fertilizer, even if you apply heavily.

Definitely Puppy Friendly, Might Have to Switch...
on November 24, 2020

I bought a big bag of this a few days ago because we recently rescued 2 puppies (roughly 12 weeks old) and I wanted something that would be safe for them since they have to go out frequently. I haven't noticed any "weird smell" like some other folks complain about, but I may have to switch away from this product because my puppies are now trying to eat it. I have to carry them past my lawn because they're too preoccupied trying to get to the fertilizer to actually use the bathroom out there. Maybe I'll try it again when they're fully-grown, but I can't say I'd recommend this product if you have puppies...

We are sorry that your puppies have been attracted to the Scotts Natural Lawn Food. This product contains natural nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium which is derived from one or all of the following; bone meal, blood meal, or meat meal; which can be attractive to various animals including dogs and cats. Dogs too attracted to it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I applied as directed, let my dogs out and they immediately sniffed the entire yard and stated eating the granules. Now every time I let the dogs out I must monitor them. Is there any danger to them if they eat the lawn food? I am not sure I would ever use this again as my dogs health is the reason I bought it in the first place and now they may be in danger from eating it.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: dogs will eat it

Not good for my dogs

Two cocker spaniels, one year old and a five year old, were sick with licking the ground & grass after using Scott's Natural Lawn Food. In spite of watering and attempting to dilute the fertilizer, my dogs have been vomiting black goo for two days. Is it the meat meal in the product?
Please clarify what is meant when stating "Safe for Pets." As it is, it can be interpreted anywhere from "No adverse reactions" to "Well, it won't kill your pets."
Cons: Bad Odor, Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is supposed to be pet friendly and safe for my dogs. All 3 of my dogs got sick from this product. My puppy ended up in the emergency vet with vomiting, diarhea and dehydration. This is NOT a pet safe product!!
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: not pet safe
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great natural alternative

Use this in my back yard to keep it as natural as possible for my family to run around and play in. The product spreads easily, doesn’t smell like the biosolid products, and works really well. I like that it feeds the soil ecosystem and lasts over 12 weeks instead of the sugar high of synthetics.
I am going to replace my spring synthetic application with this next spring.
