Poor performance

Had to buy this more expensive model because my local hardware store ran out of the basic model. Been back to the store three times because I’m using Scotts fertilizer and this spreader at the recommended setting and it’s not putting down anywhere near as much product is it supposed to.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder DLX Broadcast Spreader and appreciate your feedback.

The spreader has one drive wheel, the other wheel free turns and does not engage the gearbox therefore does not turn the rotary plate or agitator. Is the agitator turning when the spreader is pushed forward? If not, the gearbox is broken. Does the shut-off plate open and close when the control lever is squeezed? Is the rotor plate under the opening turning? Product should drop down and be flung out onto the lawn. If the rotor plate is not turning it will not toss out the product. Please contact our Customer Service for additional troubleshooting.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Terrible product - very disappointed
on August 7, 2023

I bought the edgeguard broadcast spreader this spring to leverage the large hopper for our very big lawn and to replace a smaller scotts spreader that was on it's last leg and one that the settings weren't listed on fertilzer bags so it was hard to adjust the applications . I just tried it today to lay down some summer fertilizer and had the same results as this past spring. A very inconsistent coverage, sometimes it broadcasts the material and other times it does not. The control gate opens up the correct amount - the problem may be with the agitator it doesn't appear to break up the clumps and ensures the proper amount is landing on the spreader plate. I've tried using a piece of wood to help break the clumps but this has no effect. My older spreader never had a problem using the same material every year. This is a big disappointment and waste of time and money. I expected more from Scotts

Turf builder edge guard broadcast spreader suck
on August 15, 2023

This spreader has damaged multiple lawns that do the only reason that it damaged multiple lawns is do to the fact I didn't notice what it was doing until it was too late . The plastic wheels are completely stupid. The wheels have areas that collect and build up fertilizer until it spills out causing you the over fertilize some trails and turns. I've been doing lawn maintenance for nearly 32 years and I've used lame things before but with the name Scotts on it I expected better. I have a 5 star rating and if I fall from my 5 star rating I am going to be extremely mad. Not that I'm not extremely mad now

I bought this spreader about six weeks ago and the lift drive wheel is completely severed. Very poor manufacturing quality. Will never buy again.

Feeder system is horrendous.
on April 15, 2024

I loaned my previous spreader to friends, an accident happened and they bought this piece of .... for me as a replacement. I have struggled with this thing for 2 years now. I have approximately a 10,000 sq. ft. yard. I just applied the Tri-Build fertilizer to my yard and the setting called for a 3.25, to which I set it to 4.5. I went over my yard, and there was enough in the spreader that I set it up to 8 and still went over my yard again to have extra, constantly stopping to mix the granules with a hand trowel. The feeder system on the spreader is absolutely horrible!!! Had I set it to the recommend 3.25, I'd have had to go over my yard 4-5 times to "spread" the fertilizer.

Flawed spreader

I purchased a Turf Builder Edgeguard DLX last summer. I used it. Several times with Turf Builder fertilizer and sensed it wasn’t spreading enough material on the lawn per instructions and settings on the spreader. This year I purchased the 4 step program and just applied #1. I had a 15k bag and a 12k lawn. I went over the entire lawn on the recommended 3 setting and had easily 1/2 of the bag left when I was done. Getting the right amount on my lawn is critical to get the results desired. What do you recommend?

This product is junk

Poor design at best. Product distribution is uneven and a higher application rate to the left side of spreader. This causes a 3’ stripe throughout the lawn. And yes, the neighbors it looks like crap
