Dissappointing

Bought this to replace an old drop spreader thinking this would save me time and boy was I wrong. This unit is almost totally unusable. Using Turfbuilder the unit clogs way too often and trying to get any even coverage is almost impossible. Will be returning this unit ASAP and going back to the dependable drop spreader.

Unreliable

On about the 6th application of fertilizer (~2 years old) started popping wheel caps off ( cotter pins still in place) and spreading fertilizer too lightly. Removed wheel and found drive splines stripped off. Switching left and right wheels solved immediate problem, but I have no faith in how long it will last. Previous DLX spreader lasted about 5 years, but I had to weld the handles where they fold. Finally gave up on that one because the spinner in the fertilizer bin wore out.

Not as good as my first Scott's Spreader

Decided after many of years using lawn company to go back to using Scott's Program. So last May 2022 I purchased a New Edge guard DLX spreader. First time I used it I had a grinding noise which happened to be a wheel problem but I was able to fix it. I applied my application of Scott's Fertilizer and I noticed lawn stripes from the 1 wheel every 5 feet apart. I thought that maybe it was my fault. After the next 2 applications I was getting the same result and it appears that the Fertilizer was getting stuck in the inside of the wheels and was drop down producing the stripes.
Started this season by putting down some Weed and Feed and it produced the same stripes again. Waited a month and borrowed a neighbors spreader to put down milorganite to get rid of the stripes and it took care of the problem. I am very upset that I now have to go out and buy another spreader. I wish I kept my old Scotts Rotary.
Always purchase Scott's Fertilizer and will continue to do so but maybe the design team or engineers should change the wheels to solid without the cutout.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader and appreciate your feedback.
We take consumer feedback very seriously and will pass your comments on to our Quality Control Division. Check that the rotor, gearbox or agitator is not bent or damaged. When applying, if you do not walk fast enough the spreader will not fling the product properly and therefore will potentially hit the wheels. All of our broadcast spreaders under went a design change at the end of 2020 that changed rotor angle and changed the agitator back to a 2-wing agitator. These changes reduces the potential for the product to hit the wheels.

I bought this several months ago and are so disappointed. Striped lawn. Never has that happened to me. I should have read the reviews before purchasing. Not up to Scots standards.

When streaks appear after an application you can be sure they are caused by either a mechanical problem or human error and not by disease or insects. Narrow light green or yellowish streaks may be due to not properly overlapping when applying a product that contains fertilizer; either not overlapping enough and causing some streaks to not green up because did not receive any fertilizer, or overlapping too much and overapplying fertilizer to some areas causing the grass to yellow or brown out. Broad streaks the width of a spreader or wider may be caused by several things including a spreader out of calibration, a rusted or broken spreader, an incorrect setting, pulling the spreader backward while in the open position, or filling the spreader on the lawn without shutting it off first.

I bought this spreader last Spring and have not been satisfied with it. It doesn’t spread evenly and doesn’t put enough on my lawn. It have to go over and over my lawn just to get enough on it. Very disappointed but stand by your fertilizer.

I bought this a short time ago and it is the worst spreader I have ever owned. Spreading your product and ended up with a checkered lawn cutting the spread rate in half and going both ways.
