bad calibration

just opened the Edgeguard Deluxe. pretty simple assemble .... opened the 15,000 bag of weed and feed set my spreader to 3.5 . Applied the fertilizer the same as always border and back and forth spaced accordingly. I ended up setting the dial at 6.5 and still had 5 or 6 remaining in bag did the

Poor quality

This lasted for six applications before malfunctioning. It kept sticking and it was necessary to stop, clear the jam and then shake it a bit to dispense the fertilizer. I despise the need to grip the handle while spreading it. My old one had a lever that could be closed or opened. Never again.

Edgeguard Cable

I purchased this product about 5 years ago. Used it this spring and the edge guard cable snapped. So it lasted for 10 uses then failure. Looking for a replacement cable.

Long time user, not anymore

Family had always trusted Scotts, This spreader does not live up to that. Cable unable to calibrate the amount of fertilizer that is used properly. I have looked on how to adjust the cable tension. The number on the bag is less than half of what my spreader distributes.

This spreader is calibrated at the factory. They cannot be calibrated and shouldn't need to be. If you want to verify the spreader is still properly calibrated - you will need a 1/4 inch drill bit; set the spreader to 3 and with the control lever trigger depressed the 1/4 inch drill bit should fit snuggly in the lower-left corner of the opening. If the spreader is out of calibration we recommend it be replaced since it cannot be re-calibrated. The opening on the right side will be smaller. This is so more product is delivered to the left side of the rotor plate in order to create a more balanced spread pattern because the rotor plate spins counter-clockwise

Newer isn't better

Have had this spreader for a few years now after letting a family member borrow my 25+ year old Speedy Green spreader. Rather than retrieving the old spreader, I decided to just buy a new one for myself. What a disappointment! My old one worked flawlessly. The newer one does not disperse the fertilizer equally thus leaving stripes in the yard. Following the recommended settings, I use far less fertilizer than I previously did despite using the same Scotts fertilizer. The Edge guard left burnt strips along the perimeter (I only used that feature once). Would love to find another old SpeedyGreen and ditch this newer one.

disappointment at winter

When I use the spreader for seeds or fertilizer, it works perfectly. But the moment winter comes around and I try to use it for ice melt, it's a different story. The right wheel keeps getting stuck, and instead of spreading evenly, it dumps all the ice melt in one spot. I've cleaned it, and that fixes the problem temporarily, but then it gets stuck again later.

Here are a few things you may want to check: -Is the product damp? If the product gets damp, it may clump or stick in the hopper. -Is product stuck to the underside of the spreader, along the shut-off bar or plate? If the grass is long and wet, it can cause clumping. -Is the agitator turning easily? Sometimes granules of chemical get stuck in the axle bearings. This can cause the agitator to stick or jam. An application of oil to the axle bearings may resolve the problem. -Is the product clinging to the inside of the hopper? Static can cause the product to stick. Rubbing the inside of the hopper with a fabric softener sheet can reduce the static. -Is the shut-off bar or plate opening and closing correctly when you depress the control lever?

Quality Issues

Bought the edgeguard a few years ago. Last year cable to edgeguard mechanism broke making that feature useless. This year the plastic impeller inside the hopper split and popped off making that feature useless. Very disappointed in quality. Only use 3 times per year on an average side yard.
