Great Results

As advertised, there is no mess, the plug efficiently produces sprouts from every seed planted (three seeds per starter), and supports the mature plant through harvesting. I was so certain I’d be picking bits of the sponge out of the filter come clean out, but it remained intact. I’d love to buy only the plug and reuse the plastic baskets, so perhaps that’s something they’ll consider doing in the future.
I originally opted for the seed starter kit rather than transplanting mature plants because I’m teaching my small children about the process and plant life cycle. I was worried that it wouldn’t work out and we’d be waiting forever to get weak results or worse, for nothing to grow at all. We enjoyed the process and the boys are ready to start again with new herbs and greens.

How about just the peat plugs?

I detest tossing plastic, and the cages can be reused. Why not just sell the plugs separately? I love my unit, but discarding yet more plastic is a turn off. C'mon Miracle Gro, you can do this!
