The plate is tilted so the grease doesn't properly drain. As a result the grease will accumulate on the plate and create excessive smoke that will redwposite outside the cover near the right latch.

Hello, and thank you for reviewing the Ranger/Trailhead/Scout Cast Iron Griddle. The griddle should not be leaning in any direction other than that of the entire grill. However, it would have to be at a fairly substantial angle for fluid to rise above the lip on the sides before going out though the opening. But while the drip tray below the grates of the portable Traeger grills is slanted for grease drainage, the grate itself shouldn’t be if it is installed properly. This should allow the griddle to remain flat as well, with any liquid exiting through the hole before going over the edge. If you are sure that the grate is positioned correctly, and the grill is not at a slant, please consider reaching out to Traeger Customer Service, and have one of our agents check everything with you. Should there be some kind of defect in the griddle that is causing improper drainage, such as a deformity in it’s shape, we should be able to identify it quickly, possibly even replacing it if it is still under warranty.

Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. For the Porcelain Coated Cast Iron Griddle, we recommend using a natural cleaner for care and avoiding metal utensils to help protect the surface. If you have any questions about using or maintaining your griddle, our team is happy to help at +1-800-TRAEGER or support.traeger.com.
Best regards, Traeger
