Convenient addition for pumping moms
on December 2, 2020

It is very nice to be mobile while pumping! It was a great addition to a regular pump, but it was not a pump I could use exclusively.
In addition to the large price tag, there were limiting factors to my enjoyment of the Willow. It was a very pinching feeling, and did hurt when I took them off (I did increase my size to the 27mm which fits in other pumps, and the discomfort continued). The pump was louder than I was anticipating, although it is quieter than the Medela. The pump often overestimated my pumping by 1-2 ounces, which was very frustrating when it said the containers were full when they weren't (they only hold about 4.5 oz per breast, then you have to empty and restart). I only used 1-2 times per day, but in a couple of months, the pumps stopped working, and I had to repeatedly clean the reusable containers to get it to work again (with vinegar, and boiling water), or had to pay more $$ for a new set. The pumps are very large, and on my small frame but 34C/D breasts, they were hugely obvious and it limited activities I could do while pumping (it was still difficult to carry my baby or move her around).

First off, it’s not a large quiet as everyone talks about. My Medela pump is much softer. Secondly, it has to be placed just right in order for it to connect to begin pumping. It also has a very low suction, even when you bump it up. The third problem that I had with it is that I pump more than four ounces out of each breast so the bags and containers don’t work for me. I understand that not everyone has that problem but I do. The final thing that I will say about this is that if you are on the larger bust side, don’t get this pump. It’s not discrete at all.

A few issues

First off I was unable to latch with baby, tried for about 2 months and it didn’t happen. However in the meantime I would pump to give breast milk via bottle. The problem with the willow pump is that is has to use suction to stay on perfectly and because of that I kept getting sore and bleeding nipples. To the point of causing extreme anxiety and anger when I was pumping. So the willow made for an awful experience at first, but then I just started to get used to the pain and taking care of my open sores so that I didn’t end up with an infection. This is my experience, I probably l just have sensitive skin? But I was stuck using this device since I had already started using it after investing the money into it. The willow pump in essence is great otherwise, it’s convenient in that you’re able to do things when your pumping. It’s discreet, no one ever knew I was pumping. I do recommend getting the reservoir so that you don’t have to keep purchasing the expensive milk bags. Would I recommend this product? Only if your nipples can handle it.

It takes time to work out the kinks

In the beginning I did not like it, but it took time to get use to it. I did notice a crack on one pump after 4 months of use and It seems to be a common issue. Also, app is not syncing one pump after all troubleshooting I gave up

Terrible

I hated the way it felt on my breasts with the continuous suction. It almost feels violating. I couldn’t wait to get it off the second I put it on. Also killed my back. Good customer service though but terrible product

Container
on December 2, 2020

The container are great specially after I feed them pump and only get an oz or two. The downside is that they are hard to clean; around the top and sometimes it says that it dirty but I just got done cleaning it and I don’t see any visible milk.
I have been using mine for 3 months and it looks like it has a film of milk around the whole container but it has a lot of hard to reach places I can’t it.

I had no luck with the willow. It had very low suction and took very long. It would leak each time I transitioned from the container to my bottle. Lastly, it always said I pumped a full pump after about 30 seconds and there was nothing in the bag. I reached out and didn’t receive much help. Not recommended.

How did we ever make time while traditionally pumping?
on December 2, 2020

I have a four year old daughter and a four month old son. I pumped and breastfed with my first so it was much easier to say yes to breastfeeding my second. I am a certified nurse assistant and I have been since my daughter was about four months old. I worked 8 hour shifts then, so pumping 1-2 times per shift was fine until I noticed my supply dropping. I eventually had to supplement with formula for my daughter because finding the time and place to pump with either a manual or electrical pump was difficult.
Let me tell y’all. It was not a hard decision to swipe my credit card to buy the Willow pump. I am still a CNA except now I don’t work 8 hour shifts. I work 16 hour shifts. If I needed to go to a private room for 15-25 minutes to pump every 2-5 hours, I would never get my work done. I was EXCITED to go back to work 6 weeks after my baby was born just because of the Willow.
Thanks to this pump for keeping my supply up this time around, so much so, I’ve been able to donate milk to other moms
