An essential for working moms
on June 30, 2020

I had my first daughter five years ago. I ended up exclusively pumping for her with an older style Medela pump, and would spend hours tethered to my bed or the bathroom at work pumping for her. It’s amazing how much can change in a relatively short amount of time. I just had my second daughter two weeks ago, and had purchased a willow in advance of her birth after doing a lot of research to carefully select a pump. Unfortunately my insurance did not pay for the willow, but did pay for a spectra S1. I decided the ability to pump hands free was worth the extra out of pocket cost for me to get the willow as well. Three days postpartum I developed painful mastitis, and had to use a pump to aid in recovery. I can’t say enough about the difference between the willow and spectra S1. Not only was I able to pump more milk more efficiently with the willow, which allowed for tremendous relief from engorgement, but I was able to get other things done like laundry, work projects, etc all while pumping. This is a huge step forward for working moms to be able to regain this time.
Additionally, I find the app a great resource for troubleshooting, learning assembly, etc. My only critique is that the milk containers can leak easily if you forget to flip the switch from 1 to 2 (which is easy to forget at 3am) and the leftover milk in the flex tubes can spill and get messy. Overall, though, I am generally amazed at how well this pump works, how much time it saves, and what a far superior user experience it provides vs. other pumps!

It’s been worth every penny.

These pumps have made my life so much easier; I’m an exclusive pumper. I’m 10 months in and wish I had bought this pump sooner. I love the fact that I can move around and pump anywhere. They seem to be comfortable for the most part and they empty me so much quicker than my regular pump. I also find that I get more milk with these pumps than with my regular pump. I love how compact everything is for these pumps.

I previously owned a 1.0 generation and loved it with my first son. upgraded to the 3.0
generation for my second and I absolutely love it! all the new features are fantastic and Willow is allowing me to continue to exclusively
pump for my babies.

Life saver

Purchasing the Willow 3.0 is by far the best decision I’ve made in regards to my breastfeeding journey. It has enabled me to maintain, and to some extent increase my supply while my baby recovers in the NICU. Two cons however: 1. The shape of the container makes it a challenge to get a brush to deeply scrub the inside. 2. The app indicates how much battery life remains only when the pump is being charged. Asides from these two inconveniences, I’d recommend this pump to anyone that is on the market for such a device.

A MUST HAVE if you have an older child and newborn (or twin newborns)!
on July 9, 2020

Let me start off by saying I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WRITE REVIEWS. I am a mom to a 2.5 year old and 2 week old twins. But this pump has been such a lifesaver that I have to urge anyone contemplating purchasing this pump to just do it! I literally could not pump if I had to be plugged into a wall, as my toddler is a wild man and does not sit still at all ever. I didn't expect to use this pump as much as I did with my first since I'm not going back to work this time around. BUT I have already gotten more use from this thing than I anticipated because one of my twins had trouble latching so I had to pump for him while nursing the other. There is no way this would have been possible without using this pump. I cannot stress how convenient it is to be able to chase a toddler, change a diaper, nurse a newborn, clean bottles, etc. all while pumping. The Willow has allowed me to begin building a small freezer stash of milk, which has been a huge relief for middle of the night feedings when I've been feeding the twins forever and just need to let my husband give them a bottle. If you are a new mom who has older children, put this pump at the top of your must-have list. You will not regret it. Also, my insurance is through blue cross (Montana) and they fully reimbursed the cost of the pump.

Disappointed

I really wanted to love this pump as I am exclusively pumping to feed my preemie. I bought it as soon as I was out of the hospital knowing the days ahead would be tough travelling to visit the baby in the NICU and I had hoped this pump would offer more flexibility during that time. The pump worked pretty well for the first week and then it started having constant problems. The flange broke, the bags leaked, the reusable containers are constantly saying they are full or leaking milk all over me, the app amounts are never accurate, overall it's not great. For the amount of money I've sunk into this product I would expect it to work much better and much more consistently. I am very disappointed with this pump.

Indifferent

I did a lot of research on portable breast pumps and was debating between the Willow and Elvie. When I found out that the Willow allows you to pump in any position without leaking (while using the bags) and that the Willow recently came out with reusable milk containers, I was sold. There were several things I wish I knew before purchasing.
One, it is inconvenient that the 7 suction options are not available until a certain amount is pumped because I have to constantly keep track with my phone in order to adjust it. It would be nice if there was some kind of notification, sound or text, to let me know I can increase the suction to my comfort.
Two, the reusable milk containers are slightly wasteful because it comes with so many detachable parts and milk gets trapped in it without completely emptying.
Three, with the reusable container, 2 out of 3 times I would get an error message that states to check the milk container connections before it would work. It is very annoying since I would have to remove it several times without changing anything before I can get it to start pumping.
Four, it is quite bulky. I read reviews that said the Willow is a lot bulkier than the Elvie but it looks ridiculous under my loose shirts. I will need to find a better way to hide it when I use it at work.
Overall, I would like to try the Elvie for comparison before fully recommending this product to a friend.

Complete breastfeeding game changer!

I’m an RN and care wear this easily at work while taking care of my patients. No more sitting in a room alone or disconnected at work. It’s the best! I use the reusable and I have the specific bags, both have their benefits. When I know I’ll be tied up, I use the Willow bags. If I know I have a little extra time I use my other bags. There is a learning curve on how to flip correctly. Overall, Willow is great.
