Pumped about this pump.

I did a lot of research when it came to choosing a pump as a first time mother. I am so glad I went with the Willow. It's so nice to have the freedom to move around, track progress on an app, and minimal parts to clean. Not to mention the product was created by a team of boss ladies. While it's a bit of learning curve, the coaching sessions* have been very helpful—these gals want you to succeed! Keep up the amazing work. *I had one over the phone and one over FaceTime with both reps following up afterwards for updates on progress.

Gen 2 Love

I love my Gen 2 Willow! I would not be able to have a huge stash for my little one without Willow! Way too busy to be attached to a wall or deal with weak pumps, and Willow solves all of that!

Not worth it

As a first time mom who plans to continue to work full time after maternity leave, I was so excited when I first got the Willow Breast Pump. I loved the idea of hands-free pumping while at work so I could be most efficient while there. After 6 weeks of giving the pump a try, I definitely regret the decision to purchase it. I can say I gave it a good try and had a positive outlook with it but I’ve come to the conclusion that it just doesn’t work as marketed. Even with the correct fitting bra, I still have to hold it to my breasts the entire time in order for it to work properly. The tracking of the milk pumped on the app is incorrect. It would say I pumped more than I had. Now the pump is barely even pumping any breast milk. I confirmed it is the willow pump that’s the problem because I decided to purchase a more traditional-style pump and do not have any of those issues. My advice is do NOT purchase the Willow Breast Pump.

So convenient!

I love my willow pumps. However, using the reusable milk containers has been challenging. The volume is not accurate- saying they are full when they are only at 2-3 oz. and one has stopped connecting entirely. I had hoped to not have to use the bags when I am at home.

Love / Hate Relationship with my Willow
on April 2, 2020

I don’t know if I love it or hate it.
Things I love: -ease of cleaning -mobility I have while using it -super efficient for a big pumping sessions (after a skipped feed) -bags freeze easily
Things I dislike: -doesn’t work great for a post feeding pump and doesn’t get as much as a traditional pump so if you’re short on supply, don’t recommend -bags are expensive but I started pumping one side and then the other if I’m not going to get 4 oz from each side -flip to finish....is the worst....milk everywhere and I try so hard
If you can afford it, I like having the willow in my repertoire of pumping supplies but this can’t be your only pump.

When it works it’s a dream

The learning curve is STEEP. I’ll admit I’ve never spoken with someone at Willow about my issues-but I’ve had many. I’ve had three main/major issues. 1. Stimulation to expression phase transition. I’ve tried all the tricks I’ve found on the Willow website, in online boards, and through google searches and yet as we speak it just took 12 minutes to get into expression phase on the left and 16 minutes in I’m still trying to get there on the right. Which leads me to issue 11/2. The alignment is fine. There’s a pretty ring centered on my areola around my nipple and I’m leaning back. When I check(ed) my alignment 7 minutes in, for some reason I can’t do “flip to finish”. It’s like it doesn’t recognize the milk that’s in the flange so it’s hard to re-align without spilling or having to dump that milk into a bag or bottle. 2. The biggest issue is the bags. They fill with air incredibly easily. I’ve tried 36 (yes, THIRTY SIX EXPENSIVE BAGS) and only 4 worked. The others I had to pour the milk out into a Lansinoh bag because there was so much air I was afraid of freezer burn. Also, because there was so much air I only got about 1-3 oz and had to switch to my Medela pump to finish anyway. 3. The smallest issue I have but it’s still an issue is the effectiveness/efficiency. Since it takes so long to get to expression phase and the fact I can only get about 4 oz from each breast but if I want I can switch to my medela and get another 1-2+oz is kind of frustrating. The suction isn’t as good and it takes a good 30 minutes to do less than what my medela does in 15-20. So the positives: HANDS FREE. Even though I have to pump longer, I’m able to engage with both of my kids while pumping and move about freely. I got the bag less option thankfully because that’s the only option that seems to work reliably and not make me want to pull my hair out or cry over the wasted money on the bags that don’t work. Believe it or now, I would cautiously recommend. I’d encourage you to know your needs and consider what’s best for you. For me, not being tethered to a wall is a must most days because of my kids. Four months PP I’m still learning what this pump wants from me to work effectively, but it’s slowly been getting better.

A teacher's dream!
on April 8, 2020

As a middle school teacher, it was unrealistic for me to miss the same 20 minutes with the same group of kiddos each day. Without the Willow, I'm almost positive that I would have stopped my breastfeeding journey by now! I'm able to take a couple of minutes to get my pumps on and return to class and continue teaching... my mind is blown! My little girl is almost 6 months old and we are still going strong! I am so grateful for the Willow and I tell every mommy and mommy-to-be that I know that it is worth every dang penny. Thank you!

Worth Every Penny

I was skeptical that spending this much money on a pump would be worth it. I am so glad that I went for it. I couldn't be happier that I decided to purchase this pump! It has made returning to work a much better experience. I am able to wear this at my desk, and also feel very comfortable having meetings with my close colleagues while pumping. It makes a world of difference. Also, it is a great option if you have to commute! I wear this in my car every morning on the way to work, and it is incredibly convenient. I do think that it takes a little while to get the hang of how to wear it correctly to get the best volume and comfort, but once you get there each session is so simple and efficient. I bought this when I was considering switching to formula at 2 months because of the inconvenience of regular pumps and my return to work. This pump has enabled me to continue breastfeeding --- and we are now at 7 months! If you've just gotten started, stick with it. It will definitely pay off.
