Wearable pump has been a gamechanger

I’m a mother of a 2-year-old and a newborn and the Willow breast pump has been an absolute gamechanger. I’m able to pump and make meals for my older child and not have to worry about fussing with a cord and carrying around a traditional pump. I have not noticed a difference in output between the Willow and my other pump, and believe the suction is just as good. There is a bit of a learning curve with how to assemble and reassemble the pump parts, and how it all works. This is easy to understand once you’ve practiced 2-3 times and then you’ll feel like a pro. I absolutely love my Willow and it was the best purchase I made as a second time mom. Love it!

Mobility is worthy the steep learning curve...

I’m a second time mom; I have exclusively breastfed both of my babies. My first was breastfed through one year and my second is going on three months. Both times, I returned to work part time. I have found the Willow pump to be unparalleled in terms of the mobility and flexibility it offers. I do prefer the feel and hospital grade suction of my standard pump (I have the Spectra S1 for reference) to the Willow. However, between the many parts to clean, the cumbersome cords/tubes, and the need to transfer the milk to my storage bags or bottle of choice, it can be a lot to lug around. The Willow offers great portability and discreet pumping (I don’t have a dedicated pump space as a part-time employee) because I’m often pumping in a random alcove or in my car on the way to work. I love the ability to pump directly into self-sealing bags. I don’t mind that they’re expensive because for the times I need them, I REALLY need them. I will say that there is a steep learning curve with the flip to finish and the extra steps involved with the reusable flanges. But, I consider those minor inconveniences compared to the mobility and flexibility that the Willow offers me. I wouldn’t recommend the Willow in all circumstances for all breastfeeding/pumping moms, but if you’re looking for portability and mobility, this is for you!

Frustrating

This pump is easily the most frustrating part of my day. Gulps 100x more air than milk and difficult to get a good latch. Half the time it takes 10-20 tries just to get it to latch at all. The app doesn’t actually connect to one of my pumps half the time and when it does it’s never accurate because it’s gulping air instead of milk and reading 15 ounces when there’s actually 0.5

4 stars but ultimately my primary pump now, review from exclusively pumping mom

I have grown to love the pump and use it over my spectra most of the time. The reason I removed a star is because I think there’s definitely some adjustment time that I’m glad I’ve worked through because I was initially ready to throw them out the window for how much they cost, I’m leaving this review mostly to help other mom’s learn what I needed to. 1. The 1/2 dial on the cups is everything. It needs to be on 1 while pumping and 2 when you flip to finish or it won’t work/you’ll lose milk. You also need to make sure it stays on the little dial track when switching from 1-2 or it will leak. I still flip over the mouth of my bottle just in case it is off the track because it can leak everything in the cup. Also if you leave the dial on 2 while pumping it will show in the app you’re getting milk when you are not. 2. I feel the pump is worthless without the reusable cups. The bags are very expensive, you always need to use 2 and they don’t fit nicely into the flanges. The reusable cups should come with the pump, it’s crazy to me it’s an additional purchase. 3. Speaking of things it should come with, you only get one charger. Considering the pumps are used simultaneously and will die at the same time this seems silly as well. Two pumps should come with 2 chargers. This really shows Willow is looking to maximize the add on purchases in a petty way once you already own the pump in my opinion. 4. The latch is intense. In a good way but be prepared for this. For power pumping I fully unlatch because I worry about the stress on the nipple. With my momcozy I would just pause. All that sad now that I’m fully competent with the pump I get the most output from this pump and it’s the most comfortable. I have also tried spectra2, momcozy s1 and Medela pump in style in comparison and this one is best.

Saved this new mom

My daughter was born 7 weeks early. I had to pump to get my milk to come in and after 5 weeks I was genuinely concerned I was producing enough just passed on what I pumped. I also had a cheaper wearable pump that leaked numerous times which was heart breaking. Willow has changed that completely. My output is amazing and I haven’t spilled once. I’m one happy mama now!

Overall good!

The convenience is wonderful. I love being able to pump while I’m on the go, especially in the car. I have experienced frustration with the containers providing incorrect measurements or causing the pump to function incorrectly. They are a little fussy so you really have to stay on top of deep cleaning them! It did take me a little while to get used to the suction vs my spectra - I had swollen nipples for a little while I adjusted. But overall I’m happy with the flexibility and output the Willow provides!

Miserable

Am I happy to not be attached to tubes and a motor? Sure. Are there better wearable options out there that dont make you want to pull your hair out and spend what little remains of your cash on an outrageously expensive piece of equipment that BREAKS every other month? YOU BET. Willow only recommends their products for 3 months at a time, and then you have to replace everything. Insurance only covers a portion the initial purchase, so guess whos on the hook to replace expensive pieces every two months (they dont last three). Thats right. I do not recommend this product. There is nothing quite like the stress of working full time, chasing a toddler and an infant around, and then having your pump regularly fail you. I've had to reach out to customer service on three separate occasions, and while their team is incredibly responsible and sweet, thats a ridiculous amount of work for someone who has only been pumping for 4 months and has had to replace the flanges twice and flextubes thrice. I'll add that my pumping history is 1-2 times a day, during work days, maximum. I am NOT overusing this machine, I clean as instructed immediately following each use, its just designed to fail. Save your sanity and your well earned cash.

Don't waste your money, especially if large breasted.

I received two pumps that have had issues right out of the box and have been getting the runaround from customer service. One pump stopped connecting with the app and stopped working all together within 1 week and the other loses connectivity during pumping. The amount it thinks it pumped is nowhere close. It will estimate 3.5 oz and there is barely an ounce in the container. It is so much less efficient than a standard pump (like a Spectra), you spend twice the time pumping for 1/4-1/3 the volume. This product is not discreet. I purchased this out-of-pocket thinking I could wear comfortably at work and it sticks out so obviously that I have to lock myself in my office just like a regular pump. If you have breasts anything larger than a B cup, I would not recommend this product if you are hoping to wear it in public. Less than 12 pumping sessions in and I've never regretted a purchase more.
