[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My almost 3 year old loves stealing our phones, laptops, and tablets to watch his cartoons. Now he doesn't have to! This tablet is the perfect size for him. It comes kid proof with it's own case built on it so they don't break it. 7 inch screen size, portable for little ones' hands. With a stand to set the tablet up for them to watch. It has parental controls

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 8 year old daughter really likes this tablet. She says that its easy to use. The tablet seems to hold a decent charge which is much appreciated. She prefers my ipad because that is what she is used too. Some apps that she likes are only available with Apple products so that is a problem for her with any tablet. It will be great for trips!!

A Decent Tablet at a Very Reasonable Price Point

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To begin the review, it’s important to understand what the Amazon Fire 7 Kids Pro tablet ISN’T. It isn’t an Apple computer, an iPad, or an iPhone. It isn’t a high-end Chromebook. And, it isn’t a high-end Windows computer, laptop, or phone. Why point this out up front? Because high-end devices can cost anywhere from 2x to 30x more than what the Amazon Fire 7 Kids Pro costs. Generally speaking with electronics… spend more, get more. Reviews have tendencies to scoff at performance of this device. But, it’s important to go into the potential purchase with reasonable expectations, knowing its intended purpose and use. Now, what the Amazon Fire 7 Kids Pro tablet IS. It’s a kid-, caregiver-/parent-, and budget-friendly device meant to introduce your kiddo to the world of tablets, allowing you complete control over that experience, all while providing you a worry-free/wince-free experience as your kiddo learns and plays, and, eventually, bounces the tablet off the floor… which will happen at some point. Backed by the two-year worry-free guarantee... breaks, etc. are no concern. Send it back, Amazon replaces it for free. With all this in mind, the tablet serves its purpose perfectly.
In the box you get a streamlined, sturdy bumper, the tablet, a micro USB cable, a power brick, and a welcome pamphlet. The power brick is well-made, as is the micro USB cable (although I would’ve liked to see a USB C cable). We all have cables and power bricks laying around… more than we care to admit. You know a quality cable and power brick vs a cost-effective one. These are quality and will survive your kiddo for some time to come.
Now to the bumper. Amazon wrapped the tablet in one of the best bumpers I’ve seen, on any tech that my family and I have/used/purchased to-date. And, you know how important a bumper is when a device is intended for a rambunctious kiddo. The bumper provides enough padding to protect the tablet from a typical drop off a couch or from a kiddo’s standing position. It offers a non-slip grip that feels good in the hand. The stand on the bumper’s reverse is sturdy and stays in place when stored and when in use. Overall, the bumper makes it so easy to hold the tablet, great for little hands and adult hands alike and gives the tablet substance.
Now, the tablet. While it’s no powerhouse, Amazon got the overall experience right… for an intro tablet intended for school-age kiddos. Setup was simple. I already had an Amazon account, a prime membership, and, due to using the Prime video app, a child profile already created. I powered up the tablet, connected it to my WiFi, let the tablet download updates, watched the intro video (which the device struggled with at first), connected the tablet to my account, and confirmed the profiles I wanted to use on the tablet. Very easy. The tablet comes with a free year of Amazon Kids+. During setup, the tablet asks if you want to take advantage of the offer. Initially I scoffed at it and planned to skip it and remove it, as, admittedly, I’m cheap. I researched the program further. I’m glad I didn’t skip it (and, I plan to continue using it after the trial period expires). While you can use the tablet without Amazon Kids+, it really is the parental-controls and content-access backbone of the device. Please look into it. Amazon Kids+ is a wonderful program that gives you and your kiddo access to kid-friendly (age-appropriate, based on your kiddo’s age range) tv, books, music, and apps. You have the ability to review and approve all installs if you want. You can set passwords and PINs, if you’d like. You can set daily educational goals (e.g., read at least an hour before unlocking app use on the tablet). You can also closely monitor your child’s web browsing habits. Amazon Kids+ gives you absolute control over your kiddo’s tablet experience, from any device that has web access. Out of all the devices I have that offer parental controls (from IOS, to Android, to Windows), while Google’s Android experience is a very close second, Amazon’s Android experience is the one that got parental controls right.
Okay, so, the tablet’s hardware. Hardware (that is, the internals of a device) is key to your overall experience. Nothing about this device will wow you. But, again, that’s not its intended purpose. You get a 7-inch (1024x600 pixel) touch screen. It has a built-in accelerometer (you can rotate the device and the screen will go back and forth between landscape and portrait, not all devices do this). The tablet supports wireless AC, N, G, B, and A (all wireless routers out there so far). You get two serviceable 2 megapixel cameras (one on the front, one on the rear).
Finally, and most notably from an experience standpoint, you get: 16 GB of internal storage (really 11 GB, as the system takes up 5 GB on its own… expandable to 512 GB if you buy a separate memory card), a 1.3 Ghz quad core processor, and 1 GB of RAM. What does this mean? Apps and photos take up a lot of storage. If your kiddo takes pics and vids and/or isn’t good about uninstalling apps they no longer use, you’ll use up the storage in no time and will need the memory card. Most apps don’t let you store their info on a memory card. Larger apps are typically only a little over 2 GB, most are way under that. The memory card would be for storing photos, videos, and documents. The 1.3 Ghz processor is okay. It definitely handles basic apps. It had no problem with music or video streams. Although a little slower to open, it worked well enough with mid-level apps. However, when coupled with only 1 GB of RAM, the tablet struggled with games like Roblox. If your kiddo wants it all, you’ll likely need to look at the Fire HD 8 or 10. But, again, for an intro tablet/e-reader, this thing is great.
So, worth purchasing? When you temper the cost of the tablet (and the two-year worry-free guarantee) with realistic expectations while remembering the tablet’s intended use… yes. The tablet is a perfect intro device for your youngster. My 10-year-old, who has a recent-generation iPad, a hand-me-down iPhone 5s, a high-end Chromebook, and a Nintendo switch understood this. I clued him in on what to expect. He was fine with it and, after testing what the tablet could and couldn’t do, was okay with the experience. He told me that, while he wished it could handle Roblox, he loves the extra content he has access to stemming from Amazon Kids+. He and I both agreed, at its price point, it’s a solid four-star intro device worth considering.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tablet was easy to set up with a lot of educational kids content. My son liked the carrying case and found it easy to use.
We wish it was a little bit bigger and the apps were a little slow to load.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are so happy with the Amazon fire 7 kids pro tablet! I love all the features and parent permission settings. I can set a time limit on it which which is awesome because honestly I can easily lose track of time sometimes, so when times up, times up. I have a 9 and 10 year old and all the apps it allows and comes with are perfect for their age. It comes with 16 GB of storage which is more than enough space! My favorite feature is the calling and facetime feature. 2 year warranty!! Slim protective case is one less worry to think about. I highly recommend

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tablet has a lot of great features designed just for kids!
My son had been wanting his own tablet for a while, but I don't trust that he would operate one responsibly. He always wants to buy everything he sees in his games.
I'm really happy with how this tablet is set up and the specs. It has 16GB of storage and 2mp front and rear cameras, that's plenty for a small child. It comes with a case already on the tablet, the case has a handle that doubles as a stand. I have full control of what my son can see or do on this tablet, it's wonderful.
The tablet comes with a one year subscription to Amazon Kids+ that includes tons of educational games and books to play and read.
If he wants to download something from the store, a request is sent to my email where I can review it and approve or deny.
He can even video chat his grandmother! I'm so happy with this tablet for my seven year old, and he loves it too!
