Great lens, but the coating on the front lens element failed.

I bought this lens in January 2024 and have used it constantly since them. I am very disappointed that the coating in the front lens element failed that I have to have it replaced. Compared to the EF 600mm II that I used for 8 years with no problems it is just as sharp but to have the front element coating fail is very bothersome. I have sent it off to Canon CPS for a replacement and we will see how that goes.

I love this lens!! It’s on par with the other big white lenses I’ve owned (400mm f/2.8 III and 500mm f/4 II). It is very sharp, and the weight is excellent. If you’re contemplating buying this lens, I highly recommend it.

If you're serious about your work and want the very best glass available, the RF600 is for you. To take advantage of the reduced weight that comes with mirrorless gear, I added the RF600 to my kit to compliment my EF600, which has served me well for many years. Excellence in every way!

EOS R5 and RF 600 F4 L

Although I have not used this particular lens at length yet, it compliments my Canon EF 400 f2.8 IS USM II very nicely. Weight difference is significant between the two allowing hand held shots to be easily captured.
