Impressive product!

I took the kit on a recent backpacking trip, and boy it was nice to have grilled steaks at the end of a long hike. Definitely worth getting the extras for making coffee and grilling. Fires are pretty easy to light, and the fan works well to stoke the fire, the downside of that is you do have to add fuel very very frequently because of the fire pot’s small size and the fire’s enhanced ability to burn the fuel rapidly. Once you get it going, it’s fairly smoke free. I was able to boil the 1.5litre pot of water in about 6 minutes and the grill handled 4 steaks at once with pretty even heat across the grill, and I like that it increases the fuel capacity of the fire pot as well. Everybody was impressed by the kit.

Great little stove.
Read the instructions, you cannot pack it full of wood, less is more. Once you catch on to loading the firebox properly, it works great.

Having trouble keeping the fire going inside, especially with the kettle on it. Fan randomly turns itself off.

Love this product and the cool technology. Looking forward to watch new innovations such as a larger TEG that could eventually work with one of the big power sources/generators

Worth every cent. First time use, I used store bought wood for smoking meat(ideal wood) and charged the battery fully in 3 hours from the out of the box 2bars. And for first time using this awesome device, the charge indicator was fluctuating from 1/3 to max charge quit abit, so after one or two more uses I should be able to keep the charge indicator maxed 90% of the time, which just means it will take less than 3 hours to charge the internal battery. It was so easy to start a fire in this thing, that fan is incredible. The heat this gives is off is awesome also. You guy's really hit a home run with this.

Definitely Handy in Wet Weather

I got my BioLite CampStove as a wedding gift many moons ago. Since then, I mainly used it as a backup cooking and charging device during power outages or for boiling water for MRE's. As a dad of four boys, I'm also a Scoutmaster for a small Scouting Troop near our home town.
On our first spring campout outing of the year, I decided to bring along my CampStove just as tool for our newer scouts to practice their fire building skills. Anyone who goes early Spring camping in the Northeast knows to expect some gnarly weather. The second night out, we got hit hard with slushy rain and gusts of wind. The day (which had been a nice 78 degrees) quickly deteriorated and dropped to 44 degrees Fahrenheit. When the rain came rolling in later that evening, it felt like it was just two degrees above freezing. All night long our tents and gear were peppered with rain and ice.
The next morning, I knew our boys needed a hot meal and a warm fire to start their day. Unfortunately, all our firewood was cold and soaked through and through (with exception to some pine cones and lint I brought from home in a ziplock bag). I tried unsuccessfully to use lint, wood shavings and kindling to start a fire in our fire pit but any fire I'd create was quickly snuffed out. Running low on tinder, I took out my Biolite CampStove as a last ditch effort to create and sustain a solid flame. It did not disappoint! Not only did it start and sustain a fire, I used my CampStove to dry out and light up some moderate sized pieces of wood that I then used to start up our camp fire pit. Needless to say, my CampStove really did save the day! It would not have been possible otherwise.
Since then, if the weather calls for rain on a campout, my CampStove is sure to join in on the adventure.

Excellent stove, but you should know...

I like this kit a lot and I think it's worth the price but it's easy to run into problems if you treat it like a standard camp gas stove. Though it's pretty technologically advanced, you still have to mind the heat, fuel, & airflow like you would with any other fire. The stove has to "feel" the heat from the fire for it to automatically run the fan, so I usually position the fire starter under the sensor. Otherwise I have to get almost all the wood on top burning before it will run on its own.
Once the stove is going, it burns very well but it can be hard to gauge how much fuel is left. You can always add more fuel if the fire is dying but you can just as easily extinguish the flame. If you cook long enough on it you'll build up a lot of ash, which is also hard to gauge until your fire is totally out. After a certain point, there's nothing you can do about it but dump out the ashes and make a new fire. This is easier with the cinders of the old fire but if you're not expecting it, it can be frustrating.
I like the kettle and the French press makes a mean cup of Joe but making coffee with this can be very dangerous. The silicone lid fits pretty snuggly and if you boiled 1.5L of water in it and you don't eaaaaaase the lid off very carefully, the inevitable will happen and you'll have a bad day. The lid is very snug, so be careful!
The one thing that I don't like about the kettle/stove is that it's very hard to simmer something like chili over hours and hours. For one thing, there's no way to turn the stove off once it gets going (or at least I couldn't turn it off). Once there's a sufficient amount of heat, the fan engages and doesn't stop until it cools off. That's probably for the best but if the fuel you put in the stove burns hot, it will burn hot no matter what. Consequently, I ended up burning the inside bottom of the kettle with a 1/4' of chili gunk. Cleaning vinegar and baking soda has knocked almost all of that away (and a lil bit of chipotle in the chili hid any bunt taste), so no big deal. But in the future when I simmer chili, I think I'll use something like cinders from a campfire instead of fresh fuel.
Overall this is a great value and perfect for high heat applications like burgers, steaks, and boiling water. The grill works great and the stove supports a cast iron skillet no problem. The light has a good mellow spectrum perfect for nighttime cooking. And the fact that battery fits inside the stove, and the stove & French press fits inside the kettle is just beautiful. I'm unreasonably pleased about that, actually; it's so satisfying and I can't really explain why.
I plan on camping a lot in the future and I will be sure to take this with me every time I go.
