Impressed what a simple and effective system the SolarHome 620 is. Installed it in my shed as an interim solution to installing 120 VAC. System works so well that I am thinking that my shed doesn't need to be connected to the grid. Just put together Christmas gifts for children in Africa and we decided on giving solar powered battery banks and LED lights because we know they have NO access to electricity. I can't imagine what a life changer the SolarHome 620+ can be to some one that has to live off grid. You guys are doing a great job for those less fortunate than us.

Used in a garage not connected to the grid. Installation was very easy. The design is quite ingenious with a motion activated light to place near a door, so there is light when entering the building and then the other lights may be turned on and off as needed. Within a day, the solar panel had charged the battery to 100%. The control panel offers enough information to check on the charge/discharge status and the radio is a nice little addition. The build quality is quite good and looks durable. I'm very happy I made the purchase.

Every day a fault code comes up, every day! Resets, but just not user friendly, this in temperatures well within the parameters for operation.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Gridless solution!

The Solarhome 620 allows me to light my workshop that isn’t electrified. I’m also planning on using it to light a group camping event we participate in this summer. I love my biolite products and own almost everything they make! The solutions they are developing help me with my camping and outdoor recreation and it’s great that by supporting Biolite by buying their products I’m also helping them reach others around the world with REAL practical solutions to cooking and lighting. Things we take for granted everyday! GET OUTSIDE!

Almost Perfect

I purchased three SolarHome 620s for three different reasons; one for Louisiana hurricane country, one for earthquake preparation in South California, and the third for my almost off-grid cabin/office in Western Oregon. Each of these places also has at least one Biolite Campstove.
Like all of my Biolite products it seemed the SolarHome 620 would be perfect, and for the first time it seems Biolite just missed (my) mark.
While I have no issue with the small 6 watt solar panel, I struggle to understand why Biolite would not allow the use of a larger (customer supplied) 5v solar panels. My east-facing off-grid office in Oregon gets limited sun and a larger panel would allow for faster charging.
The other issue is the inability to charge the SolarHome Control box via USB or a 5 volt supply. While this may be cost saving concern, perhaps Biolite could offer one as an optional option. It would be nice to be able to charge the Control box during the long gray Oregon days using another power source.
Other than those two issues, I think they can be fixed, the SolarHome 620 is a very good product suited for many uses. If Biolite fixes these issues the SolarHome 620 would rate as a 15 out of a 1- 10 scale!
