We bought this for our new shed-not only for the light source but for the security feature of the motion light. Works like a dream and we didn’t have the expense of running electrical to the shed.

I need to write the review in order to balance against the 1Star reviews:
Got the product bought with a local retailer and was frustrated since it did not work except bios version show up nothing happened. Out of box failure! Ok.
Contacted the Biolite support, quick response, some questions easy to answer. within 24h it was clear DoA. They asked me for either retailer return or if Biolite shall send me a new one asap (it was not on stock). Two weeks later I got it, and a headlamp as excuse too! Thank you very much. This is service!
This one works as intended. And for all the others. In the (preferably sun) light after solar panel connected press one of the arrow buttons and then it should ask for the language you aim for. If it shows some numbers for the first 3 sec an nothing more - contact the excellent Biolite Service.
So full 5 stars and a big thank you!

Brilliant - But Patience Needed

A few years ago we bought at least one of just about everything that Biolite offered. Some of it we started using right away or have used over time and we have been delighted with all of it. We had no problems with any of it - it just worked beautifully - so we weren't concerned that we didn't test the Solarhome 620 when we first got it. Somehow, it remained in storage for almost four years before we finally got it out to set up in our workshop this week. When the unit was installed, we tried to start it up after a couple of hours (tried waking using arrows as directed) and nothing but a brief firmware message came up. We left it a day and tried again - still nothing but a firmware message. Tested the juice coming from the panel, and lots of charge seemed to be coming in, although it was not particularly sunny. Third day - really brilliant sunshine and tried again to wake the unit, unplugging and re-plugging, clicking on left-right arrows and suddenly it started up, but showing that it had not started charging. Took about 4 1/2 hours once it woke up, but charged fully and everything working beautifully. I feel that some of those who have complained about this unit probably needed patience more than they needed a refund or replacement. I am not sure if the delay in startup had to do with how long the battery was dormant or the fact that it wasn't really bright the first two days in service, but glad we took the time to let it get going. It is an amazing unit once it is properly set up. Thanks BioLite!

The Solar Home was super easy to set up and while right now I am only making use of the motion sensor light, the panel is installed, cables are run and lights hung in preparation for the 2020 hurricane season! Living on the ocean on Canadas East Coast is stunningly beautiful, however we get storms, and they frequently take out our power for extended periods of time. Usually that means sitting around in the dark rationing cell phone and laptop power and forgoing my morning cuppa. This season though I am ready, between the solar home 620 and the camp stove I will be connected illuminated and well fed! Please branch out into solar powered coolers next!

I have purchased two of these now. A clever, well designed, versatile little project whose purchase helps provide for the greater good. Not expensive. Ample wiring provided to supply the lamps. What more could you ask for?

Works pretty good. It would be nice to have a way to attach to the roof without hammering nails into the shingles. Also, so many wires! Installs in minutes, but you'll spend half a day trying to make all the wires disappear.
