Battery compartment

I've only changed the batteries twice in this trashcan over the last few months of using it and today a spring popped off making it so I can not use it with batteries anymore.

Holds more than regular can. I highly recommend the custom liners easy to install. Looks great no bag overhang and voice feature is outstanding.

Perfect for the Handicapped

When I received an email advertising this trash can, my heart went "pitter-patter". I am handicapped and use a cane. My previous trash can was a Simple Human model with "step to open". Given the placement in my kitchen, I could have easily tossed garbage into the can from most areas of my kitchen if I didn't have to walk over and step on the pedal to open the top. Now I just say "open can" and that's it. I love the appearance of the trash can as well, and the self-dispensing bag storage is icing on the cake. I own many Simple Human products and I am always impressed with the careful thought that goes into the designs. The only problem now is I find myself talking to another Simple Human trash can in the bathroom! (And it doesn't understand a word I'm saying!)

Smart can

So for so good! The last one we had lasted about a year and a half, we used batteries to power it for that timeframe. Now we use the house power to operate the can and I must say it seems to be the way to go. The current can is supposed to be the upgraded version but it’s hard to see any physical difference at all. We are about 2-3 months in with this “Smartcan” check back in a year to see if the durability has improved.
