Very convenient

Very convenient trash can. At first I thought the voice command was a little excessive, but quickly found this feature quite helpful. When your hands are full of messy stuff or you need to toss something in quickly to avoid making a mess, it’s so convenient to just say “open can”. And we have found our guests find it entertaining as well.

Great Trash can, but...

The folks at SimpleHuman make awesomely engineered products. I own a bunch of their soap dispensers, and have given a bunch more as gifts. Everyone loves them. So, I tried their trash can (motion and voice control) and it works as I would expect from SimpleHuman--great. HOWEVER, being that trash cans like these are in high traffic areas, the cover is sensing motion - as it should - and is opening ALL THE TIME. So I had to move the trash can out of the way - which makes it less convenient and less useful. Lots of other people I'm sure are going to have this same problem. I will not recommend this can to others without a strong caveat about the false opens--which are hugely annoying btw. I suggested to SimpleHuman that they install a switch on the back of the can where you can set the open functions to your liking: Just voice, or just proximity, or both. Hope you do that...

Our voice and motion sensor can is designed to open whenever something above the sensor window passes within 10-12" of it. Once opened, the sensors range expands to 12-15" above and in front of it so that trash can be continuously disposed of.

Doesn't close properly

This is my second replacement can and the right side still doesn't close all the way. Poor design.

Our voice and motion sensor can is designed to open when you say "open can" or when something within 6" to 8" passes over the sensor. Conversational phrases and especially background noise from TV's or other devices are similar to the command and their sound waves may trigger the can and open it. This is totally normal and will not negatively effect or wear out the can.
