The voice and motion control trash can is one of this century's truly useful inventions. Kudos to whoever came up with the idea! It is especially practical during the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope more start showing up all over the country.

Great design

We replaced and older 44L can with the upgraded 58L. The new can is silent and very, very well engineered. The mechanical drive is via planetary gears and is much improved over the old drive system. We love the voice control which is very helpful when you have both hands full. The opening sensors are much improved as well. They eliminated the openings when someone simply walks by the can. One of the biggest improvements is that the new 58L can is almost exactly the same dimensions as our old 44L can! Eliminating the inner basket added the additional capacity with no loss of functionality. Overall the new 58L can is a much better design and works flawlessly.

Quality........

I have had a simplehuman trash can more than 10 years and it still looks like brand new and strong. Recently I ordered this can to use as a recycle bin. When I received this item I was very disappointed with the quality. This one was of a very cheap quality overall compared with the price and my previous purchase. In the future I would hope that your company would make the quality like before. I see your simplehuman products as an investment.

Never been this excited about trash cans...

We already had one of these for trash and it’s been almost a year and I still say “this thing is some of the best money I’ve ever spent”. We got a second for our recycling, which is my only gripe. There’s no inner bucket I can purchase to avoid using/reusing a bag to contain the bottles and cans. It’s the smallest of nitpicks.
The bags fit perfect, there’s no pinch hole with sharp plastic to tuck in excess and tear the bag. Removing a full bag is super easy and the bags have never torn or ripped a handle, ever. Being able to say “open can” and Larry bird a banana peel into it from across the kitchen is very satisfying. They look sleek. They blow people’s minds when they see them In action the first time. Sometimes similar sounding (or often enough NOT similar sounding phrases...) will set them off to open because of the TV. Again, the slightest of criticisms. The pros outweigh the cons by miles. The large form factor and features and aesthetics were worth spending the money, twice.

Great Can, Scratches Easy

We purchased this can to replace our 9 year old simplehuman stainless steel foot operated 45L can. This can is larger than our old one but takes up the same footprint in the kitchen which is great. The voice activated lid works well and is great to use. We have had the can in our kitchen for a little under 2 weeks and we have noticed a lot of little scratches on the outside of our black stainless steel can. I wish the coating on the outside was a little tougher, as it seems any small object that brushes by it can scratch the surface.
