Can opens too frequently

The can is good but the microphone that controls the voice activation (to open the can) is way too sensitive. It opens too frequently based upon normal conversation or the television causing it to open. This then creates a can that is venting odors from the garbage it contains - too frequently. I am on my third replacement for the voice activation issue - once it quit working altogether and the second - it just would not stop opening. I found placing TWO strips of clear packing tape over the microphone deadens the sensitivity.

Our voice and motion sensor can is designed to open when you say "open can" or when something within 6" to 8" passes over the sensor. Conversational phrases and especially background noise from TV's or other devices are similar to the command and their sound waves may trigger the can and open it. This is totally normal and will not negatively effect or wear out the can.

Glad to have this in our kitchen. Well packaged and arrived in good order. Curious, however, sometimes the light is blue when the can opens and senses you, sometimes it is red. Why is this?????

Our voice and motion control sensor can indicates a red light when it is time to insert new batteries. The blue light indicates that the can is receiving enough power from the batteries or the included plug-in wall adapter.

EVERY KITCHEN SHOULD HAVE A SENSOR TRASH CAN.

58L Blk Voice Sensor and motion control

The first one arrived completely damaged , customer service was outstanding in replacing and sending the prepaid label to send the broken one back. Now I do like the trash can and it works impeccable, however I hope it last the whole 5 years warranty. Because if it breaks there will be no way to open the lid manually. So that’s the reason for the 4 stars. In the event the motor ever stops working they should have came up with an alternate plan to open the lid manually with a step Lever. Yeah you can open it when you put a trash bag in it by lifting the bottom part up every time you put trash in the bin however that would be a pain to do verses a step bar. I do use my trash can with the power cable , so I have no review for the battery

Sleek & Efficient Design

Love my sleek white steel sensored simplehuman can. This is the first garbage can that is aesthetically pleasing enough to keep in the open (i.e., rather than hidden under the sink). The voice sensor actually works, "Open Can"--I'm pleasantly surprised! Very well designed... the neat bag storage, the voice and motion sensor, the clean precise lid closure all work great!
I did have concern when the motion sensor stopped after 12 months, and the troubleshooting by phone did not work. The simplehuman folks stood by their product and came through by quickly shipping a free replacement. I'm a big fan and highly recommend.
