I tried the sensor only can and then the voice control/sensor can. Just like with dial-up, once you go voice control, there’s no going back. I wish they made the semi round cans with voice control too, it’s a similar design on nearly all of them, but this 58L gets the job done, even if it is larger than what I really needed. Nothing beats telling the can to open as you go for three from deep inside the kitchen, you just can’t do that with any of the other cans! Go voice control, you won’t be disappointed. I think another plus is not having to change batteries, just keep it plugged in with the included adapter and you’ll be shooting threes into the can in no time!

It's SO quiet!

This replaced an older model. I like that it operates so quietly and that it stays open if it senses that you are still standing close by. The operation of it opening to an audible command of "open can" has become quite a hit with guests!

The can works very well. I especially like the voice command option. The downside is that the trash bags are extremely expensive! About 3x the price of regular bags.

Randomly opens sometines gotta ask several timez to open and now will open but close quickly while your hand in it i was so excited to receive my new trash can i treated it so nicely told my husband not to over work him honestly didnt even wanna put trash in it for first week but 2 weeks in omg the issue i will be getting in touch with customer service about a speedy resolution!!!

Awesome Trashcan Overall

After two years of use, our trashcan's front motion sensor died and we were left with a trashcan that only had the voice control to open (the inner motion sensor still worked luckily). We really got to see how well this voice control worked in all scenarios. The voice control can be spotty at times (multiple family members would have to repeat themselves) unless you "yell" at it. It's unfortunate you have to raise your voice at the trashcan which can be awkward at family gatherings.
Realistically, when everything is working (which it was for two years) the trashcan is great. The two sensors it uses makes for an awesome experience. The voice control is really only used when your hands are full of some cracked eggs or other messy things.
When our trashcan had been broken for awhile, I reported it to simplehuman support and they sent a new trashcan after some back and forth with their staff. I really appreciate the promptness in how this was handled.

This can is so much better than the older model. It’s a lot quieter than the previous one and has the option to plug it in so no need for new batteries every other month. I also like the voice option which is pretty cool. I would highly recommend this product
