I bought this to till a previously planted garden each spring. It works like a charm - goes through it like butter. Also used it to create two new flower gardens in really tough, compacted soil. It did the job well! I have found that in order to dig down deep, it works better if you go forward a few feet and then till as you pull the machine back towards you. Much easier to use in the garden than my old, 8 hp, gasoline monster.
Ground where we live is SOLID CLAY, so I just wanted a small electric tiller/cultivator to work up some topsoil for generat grass planting and garden work. GUESS WHAT? To my surprise, it worked on that HARD CLAY with little or no effort. That’s not to say it didn’t require some time a gradual deepening of the tines, but bottom line, it works well and pleased with the purchase.
The Sun - Joe has made life easier for me as l have been on dialysis for six years & have trouble with my gas powered at times with Sun - Joe I just plug in & go much easier !
Any doubts I may have had due to the small size of the tiller evaporated when I plugged in my new best gardening buddy. Instantly my dreams to remove the collection of weeds I erroneously called a lawn became a reality. Due to existing plantings I had to be able to get in between things. Old roots were easily dislodged. This baby sized beast continues to amaze me. Florida is the land of flowers and my Sun Joe tiller is making all my gardening dreams real. As times have changed I am adding edible plants as well. Easy to operate and truly built to last.
I needed a cultivator for several new planting areas around my home. I added the soil & amendments to them and the Sun Joe Electric Cultivator made it easy to mix it all together so the areas were ready for my plantings. I was skeptical if it had enough power to do the job but that was never an issue. It breezed thru the job and even pulled out some good size roots and rocks that had made it into my planters. Would definitely recommend this cultivater to anyone!
So it appears small and it is. But that's where it ends, the rest is big. It has a lot of power. On a lawn that was not tilled previously, set on lowest depth and hold on. It has a tendency to run off. Once that is done you can set it a bit deeper and it will work thru at a good pace. It surprised me just how well it worked.
