Awesome Machine with One Major Issue

Absolutely awesome machine.
From CPU to RAM to SSD, everything flies and crushes everything I throw at it.
The monitor is gorgeous and smooth.
That one major issue though... No mux switch. As beastly as this laptop is, without a mux switch it will always lag behind others when gaming due to the bottleneck created by not allowing owners to bypass integrated graphics completely.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A beast of a laptop

This is *almost* everything I wanted in a laptop. The screen amazing (I do have the 2k panel). Considering I game and use my laptop for work, the AMD 5900hx is just a beast. The mechanical keyboard is a joy to type on.
So, why the 4-star rating?
1 - The NVidia 3080 GPU is only 115w with a 15w boost. I really wish ASUS would have gone with a little extra cooling and the 155w+15w variant.
2 - A MUX switch, or advanced Optimus would have been nice.
3 - The raid controller that they use has a 2TB limit. I purchased two 2TB drives, and could not create a raid 0 array, but I could with two 1TB drives. This is a limitation of the AMD raid chip that they used, but I think it could be fixed with a firmware update.
Other than those few things, this laptop is perfect.

Major Initial Problems but getting better

The first laptop I received completely died after 1 day. I was able to ship the laptop back and get a replacement which seems to be running well. This thing is definitely fast when it is using the appropriate video card. one of the things I realized after 3 days of research is that the onboard graphics card is not only still enabled but set as default. This caused some pretty big performance problems that took me a while to figure out. The issue that caused me to look into this issue was using Oculus Link. My headset would connect but It would never load a game basically because the onboard video was being used but does not support VR. I expect more from a professional gaming laptop

so far this is an epic laptop that has ran everygame i have thrown at it
screen brightness is good though i mainly use it at night in the dark and havent tried it outside i think it would do just fine
my only gripes are how small the storage is compaired to the other versions...
the sound sounds generic its really quiet and it sounds like listening to something through a plastic cup any gamer would be wearing a gaming headset anyway so thats not a huge deal i have the astro a50's
the text is so tiny i can hardly read it (im used to 1440p on a 35inch widescreen)
if i could give any advise it would be to get the 300hz 1080p variant
you get an extra TB of storage... and better fps on games/larger fonts

Love this laptop. Although. After re-installing Windows 10, there are some devices that does not get re-configured. Even after applying the latest AMD chipset firmware - so I am not sure what they are as they are 'unidentified'

Great laptop for gaming and video production, specs are top notch, only few downsides were lack of a card reader and no web cam, it comes with a video solution in which you use your phones camera via an app which is kinda cool. I like the see through plastic, but i don't think I'll find the NFC tag useful at all.

Beauty and quality assured, excluding audio

It is a really beautiful model with a sleek design and runs FPS games like Valorant extremely well. The speakers do not provide much sound but it's assumed you'd be gaming with quality headphones equipped. I have not played around with all the functions yet but am currently in love with the ones I have tested - the beautiful screen, the smooth touchpad, wonderful-feeling keyboard, the gaming performance and processing power, and the amazingly pretty RGB effects.

Great laptop, fast, cool, but could use more USBs.

It's fast.
Can handle streaming, cam input, main game and a few small interactive stream games all at once!
The ROG key is just magnetic. You could easily bump it and have it be gone for ever.... Because of this I don't want to actually use it for fear of locking myself out of whatever I attach to it. A slide lock or anything would have been highly useful. They do include a rubber carrier for it.
It's light, thin, and stays nice and cool even under extended tests.
The lightness does come at a cost. I had to brace the back side of the machine with another hand in order to remove and attach the screw for the m.2 drive upgrade. So not sure how it will hold up to airport travels. Time will tell.
It only has 4 USB ports and 1 is a USB-C. Mouse, camera (since it doesn't have a camera), and microphone. Where do I plug in my keyset, or Controler if that's your thing.. Lol. It's just not enough. One headphone/mic combo jack. Not a big deal because I don't think I've ever used a 3.5 for a mic.
You can charge it via the USB-C port! This is seriously what lead me to buy this laptop. All the specs, performance, and the fact I've loved the ROG stuff for years helped, but I do shop around and no one with a high performance laptop offeres USB-C charging. This is your one stop shop, this is the win. Ever try to charge a gaming lap top on a plane? They just trip the plug if even on and idle. Now I can use the USB-C to trickle power in and give me a little more run time :) Bravo!
Would have given 5 stars if had a few more USB ports (even just 2 more would have been perfect), they key had a lock to keep they ROG key in place. Buy a hub (more things to travel with and you solve the USB issue at least.) Also bravo on still having a ethernet port. A lot of folks are ditching those too. Was able to hook to my gig line instead of wifi for updates and steam down loads. 100% worth it.
Buy it, it's awesome.
