I have been using this X1 G3 for about a month and I love it. It renders 4k movies on PP fast. I know this wasn't designed for gaming, but I have been gaming like crazy on it. If I had to pick one negative thing about this laptop it is Lenovo's proprietary Keyboard setup. I have no idea why Lenovo has the Ctrl and Fn keys setup backwards from every other PC in the world. At least lenovo made a way to swap them in the Bios. I struggled for 2 weeks with this issue before reading about the swap FN key option. It gets hot with heavy gaming and the fan gets going high, but it isn’t too loud. Most of the time you can’t hear the fan if you're just streaming something. I haven't figured out how to move the games to an external monitor via my docking station. Ok that’s all the criticizing I have for this beautiful laptop. It fits in my backpack and goes everywhere along with my work laptop. With both laptops in my backpack it is still light. The battery is fair for normal use, but if you play a game, video edit, or design software you better have the charger handy or it will drain the battery in about an hour. Otherwise it has a solid 5-7 hours with basic use. I immediately upgraded the ram to 2 x 16gb RAM and added a 2 gb M.2 SSD for a total of 3 gb SSD space. I hope it doesn’t crash right after I post this, but if it does I got the 2 year extended warranty and protection.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this laptop! It's fast, it's quiet, and the keyboard is simply amazing. The only small issue is the battery life; it's not horrible (about 1.5 hour on zoom), but it's significantly worse than the battery life of my older X1 Carbon (gen 6).
I am very happy with my X1 Extreme Gen 3 except for 2 things. First, I wish it had a number pad. Its a 15" laptop, there's plenty of room, so why not? I purchased a wireless number pad for when I'm entering a lot of numbers. Secondly, I wish I could have gotten a better video card in it. While the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti 4GB MaxQ is ok for most things, it's quite lacking with 4k video applications (especially with multiple monitors) and any kind of real gaming. I would have gladly paid extra to get something like NVIDIA® Quadro® RTX™ 3000 6GB. I give this laptop 4.5 stars.
It's light, has a good battery, can handle anything with 32GB Ram and Intel i9! Facial recognition works very well as does the fingerprint reader. I like the matte finish and the red LED in the ThinkPad logo on the outside of the laptop. Thats always a topic of conversation when people see it.
I did A LOT of research before purchasing this laptop. My main use is for day trading and running multiple monitors. It does this, and most everything else perfectly! Lenovo is trusted, durable, has great customer service. I would definitely recommend this laptop.
