Reliable, simple chainsaw

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this as my first electric chainsaw and have been pleasantly surprised with the ability. Many people have said these saws are only good for minor projects and I think short of massive trees or milling wood, this thing handles many trees and as much as the vast majority of people need.

My first chain saw

Received this saw as an early gift after wanting one for years. It was very easy to learn on. If you're like me and this is your first saw purchase, read the manual, wear safety gear, and it'll be good to you. I seem to wear out before the batteries do, so far. If you've read other reviews, you'll recall that the bar and chain oil does leak a little, so keep it stored appropriately to avoid staining your floor. (Only complaint is that I thought it was to include a carrying case. Mine did not, so I've been using a garbage bag instead.)

Best chainsaw I've ever owned!

I have owned gas powered tools all my life, so I did a lot of research before purchasing a battery powered chainsaw. I first read all the the reviews and compared prices; most of the owners I was researching were the folks who cut timber for a living...they all said the same thing while at work...."95% of the time, I reach for the cordless Greenworks chainsaw!" That is what convinced me and now that I own one, I will never again purchase gas powered equipment as long as Greenworks makes a battery/cordless version. If you use the Greenworks Chain/Bar oil made for this equipment...this thing will cut thru timber like a hot knife thru butter! Buy this saw...you will feel as good about your purchase as I do.

A Great chain saw, plain and simple!

As a New England home owner heating with wood for over 30 years, I’ve used a number of gasoline chainsaws. I am extremely impressed with this Greenworks brushless saw. .. But first.. this is not a gasoline engine powered chainsaw, don’t expect it to act exactly the same... I’ve enjoyed this saw for over a year and two replacement chains.. My main occupation for the last 30+ years has been repairing cars, and anything mechanical so I’ve torture tested this saw like any other saw I’ve used.. A+. Working side by side helping a friend cut fallen trees into wood stove size pieces, this saw had it’s first workout, side by side with a gas saw who had to stop and refuel before my battery was down to 1/4. As I was pushing the saw to it’s limits as I tend to do at times with a gas saw, at the point where the gas engine would be saying “that’s all I got man” when Really Pushed, the electric saw just stops.. no kick back, just an almost instant safe stop. And chain adjustments are so simple. No tools needed, can be done on the spot in seconds. All I need on the job is the saw and chain oil, gloves and eye protection, no need for covering my ears due to noise.. making a safer all around. The saw is not too heavy and is very well balanced in operation. Until I run into a tree requiring a larger bar on a chainsaw, It’s likely to be a while before my gas saw gets used again. I am very pleased with this Greenworks saw and would absolutely recommend it. - Jonathan

Terrible investment

The chain keeps coming off no matter what adjustments I try. When it works it is great but having to remount the chain every five minutes is not me definition of efficient work.

Hello Jbks,
Sorry to hear that the unit is performing to your expectations. Chains stretch with use. When new, they stretch more. The tension on a new or newish chain should be checked and tightened every 20 minutes of cutting or so, it can get away from you fast. This is normal stretching. Tension techniques can be found in the owner's manual. If you require additional assistance, please contact us directly at 1-888-909-6757 and we will provide an instructional guide to help you navigate the tension on your chain. We look forward to speaking to you.

I can't use this saw even though I have a lot of experience using chain saws. Really like a lot of things about this saw, the size and run time of the battery, etc...But like many others it throws the chain all the time. I had my son use it who's quite a pro; didn't say anything about the chain and within 5 minutes of use he had thrown the chain very disappointing
Pros: Quiet, Environmentally Safe

Powerful Workhorse and Easy to Use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a year ago and have gotten some great use out of it in my backyard and volunteering at church. I've used it to fell trees, brush, and cut logs up to 8" diameter. After cutting up three trees it was sharp as ever, and it could easily handle a tree and more on each charge.
Only caution is to check that your chain stays tight. It's so easy to use I have forgotten to since my bar up and derailed before.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought my first chainsaw and liked it so much I turned around and got another one, exact same 16" 40v. Both have preformed flawlessly, besides a little bar oil I havnt had to do a thing, well besides sharpen the chain a couple times, but that's normal. Battery life is great durability is phenomenal, I'm pretty rough on these saws and there both still kickin butt and makin short work out of everything I throw at them. One of them I actually dropped aprox 15' and thought immediately "dang", well atleast I still have 1 saw. Once I made it down to it I hit the power button beepbeepbeep then notta, dang it I thought, then I notice the chain break was on. Pulled it into saw mode and she fired right up. Took it back up in the tree with me and the other one stayed on the ground with my son, both cutting flawlessly.
