I have been looking for a high-quality, premium mouse for a while. The cheap $10 variety mice available at the big box stores just don't satisfy. This Dell laser mouse seems to be exactly what I was looking for. It's quiet, smooth, glides easily and points precisely. The scroll wheel roller and button press have excellent feel. The textured gripping surfaces have a good feel too. It is mostly asymmetrical and works well for me even as a 'southpaw' left-handed mouse user. The perfect left-handed mouse would have the thumb buttons on the right side of the mouse, but I guess I can't expect a company to source a special mirror version of a mouse for just 10% of their customers.
Now for the bad part. When I plugged this wired mouse into the computer, without prompting or permission it downloaded and installed well over 200 MB of "driver" software called Dell Peripheral Manager (DPM). This bulky utility software allows me to configure various options and actions for three of the five mouse buttons. I understand it also supports bluetooth pairing and firmware updates on several other Dell peripipherals, so perhaps that's why it is so bulky, but I didn't ask for it and didn't want it. I just wanted Windows to configure the default HID Mouse driver and be done with it. Even when I uninstalled DPM, it left behind a 70 MB installer in the Programdata folders that Windows duplicated into the driver store, so now there is 140 MB of extra cruft on my SSD that I'll never get back - all because Dell thought I might like to configure 3 mouse buttons.
Left button flaky.. from time to time not clicking anymore. You need to shake a bit the mouse to have it back..
