[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm particularly harsh on a rating because this is a flagship laptop, and I'm expecting flagship components and performance and there are a few issues that irked me. I'm lucky enough to have compared X1 Extreme Gen 3 15 to Dell's latest XPS 15 so most opinions I have are comparing the two machines.
- Same CPU and graphics; equivalent exceptional performance.
- The X1 Extreme has a vastly better camera and audio capabilities; I cannot say enough bad things about the XPS's camera and audio. XPS audio is softer and it crackles, camera sensor is cheap (not improved with newest driver install, either; it is literally junk) and the microphone seemed less sensitive, too. Although I was expecting more from a flagship, the X1 camera is at least acceptable and the audio is good, even at louder settings.
- The X1 keyboard is also more comfortable and much better tactile feel and button travel(my preference).
- The OLED screen is flat out amazing.
Downsides:
- I have used it for barely a day and a half and the trackpad and left mouse button looks so worn as if I've already used it for a year. I really need to find a skin for these. It looks terrible.
- The X1 track pad is also significantly smaller than the XPS, but I've always loved the keyboard joystick.
- The X1 is significantly lighter than the XPS.
- The X1 battery life leaves much to be desired; I would gladly have given up an extra 8-16 oz. of weight for more life.
Because performance of the two machines is equivalent, The X1 wins hands down in ergonomics and peripheral functions. The XPS looks awesome with its polished logo and brushed metal case but I can't consider the XPS because its audio, microphone and speakers are plain junk. Assume you don't have them and need to drag along a webcam and microphone. The X1 screen is awesome. If you need to squeeze every last minute out of the battery, then I might consider the XPS, otherwise there is no question, the X1 is the better machine.

Lenovo ThinkPad - the best laptop

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Much faster than my previous Lenovo, which loved very much and I got to stay with the ThinkPad models, which I feel are better suited to performing a lot of different activities and centered around just one focus area. I love the Wifi pick up as the speed is much better and once I got a few peripheral issues resolved, everything has come together neatly.

Lightweight, Well-Built Power- But Not Perfect

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Life-time Thinkpad buyer, this is my 25th or so Thinkpad since 1994. I tried to switch to HP and spend $500 less, but Lenovo knows I will pay that $500 for the Trackpoint and Thinkpad quality. What is disappointing and the reason for the 4 out of 5 stars is the power management has an issue that other models have been know to have for the last few years. Updated everything, all the software, the BIOS, Lenovo apps, Windows, but still the following problem remains: When connected to the Thinkpad Gen 2 Thunderbolt Dock with a single Thunderbolt cable, the laptop works great, that is until you put it to sleep. Returning to my office hours later, the laptop is indeed asleep, but the cooling fans continue to spin, despite the laptop being cold, and well, sleeping. Apparently it sleeps like a dolphin, with one eye open ;-) It's frustrating that this problem made it past QA, and persists throughout various models. A google search will demonstrate this, if you need to prove to yourself,

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great Laptop for architects and designers. It runs SketchUp and Adobe products well and doesn't lag often. The fan is quite loud though when running graphic-heavy programs.

Drivers problems

I had issues when using it with a ThinkPad thunderbolt dock, image disappearing for a few seconds every now and then. I had issues using it with a ThinkVision monitor if both displays were active (laptop and monitor). Closing the lid to keep only external monitor active results in jerky image. It's fixed after a reboot. Unplugging power cable results in Windows freezing. The only solution is powering it off from the button. All drivers are up to date, I'm often checking for driver updates. ThinkPad docking firmware update didn't solve the issue. System check on Lenovo support site was successful.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
