10 gal size is perfect for an open litter box, 14 gallon, with hole cut in lid, makes a great covered one.

I purchased my old roughnecks (10 gal) 10 years ago and the handles recently broke and the sides cracked. I use them to thaw 50 pounds of meat before I process it for my exotic feline. In the winter time, the plastic does get fragile and the meat just barely fits which does stress the plastic. I just purchased 2 new totes and I look forward to having them last for 10 years (hopefully).

I was so pleased to find out I could get another 10 gallon roughneck from Rubbermaid for my laundry area. I already had an old one for "whites" but I needed one for "darks" and they are not found in stores in my area. They fit perfectly in the laundry closet under the bottom shelf. They are sturdy, and not brittle like another brand.Thank you, Rubbermaid!

the 4 - 14 gallon dark blue roughneck bins i have had since the 80's or 90's have been inside where it is hot and humid with no ventilation and have held up for all these years, until the handles on each end of one of the lids broke into pieces. it is nice to be able to replace the bin and lid with the same color and very helpful that it is still the same shape. the only noticeable difference is that the new walls and lid are not quite as sturdy as the original from decades ago. still perfectly usable, and the basic high rubbermaid quality. i am happy to have the replacement.
rubbermaid is always reliable. i only wish the 14 gallon bins and all the other rubbermaid products were still more available in the stores.
