These are by far the best storage containers out there! I bought several, years ago and would love to add to my collection. Please bring back the most durable, best stacking storage containers. Thank you!

RoughNeck Totes 18 gallon Must have

We use the RoughNeck brand totes 18 gallon for collecting and storing samples at our farm. They take a lot of abuse. We have tried others but no other brand stands up to our application. I am surprised they are no longer made. I am hoping it is just a temporary issue because they are essential to our work.

Far superior to the knockoffs sold by HD. I agree with other reviewers who are disappointed that Rubbermaid has discontinued manufacturing these totes. Please reconsider,

Very Useful Storage Box
on September 21, 2008

Over the years we have probably bought 100 of these boxes for both our nonprofit wildlife organizations and personally. The pros are that they are affordable and very space efficient. The cons are that when stuffed full they do bulge out a bit making it a challenge to close the box. But if stuffed properly they fit good and tight. We live in a very buggy area so for for long-term attic storage, we duct tape the holes in the handles and duct tape the top down. Rodents can chew into them if they are determined enough so we no longer leave dog food in them. Cons: We have not had good success with long term stacking of them as the tops are flexible and the weight of the box on top will eventually crack them. The tops do get brittle over time. And not surprisingly, the color will fade in the sun (I use some of my older boxes outside for composting and fish raising bins.) Also we sent back the gray ones as they had a tacky residue and smell to them that we weren't comfortable with and we did get our money back. We have not had that with the other colors that we have bought (light blue, dark blue, light green, dark green). As they don't stack well, we have built shelving systems that fit one box high. I do wish that they came with a label that you could write on as taped label don't stick too well on them and I don't like to write directly on them as we might reuse them for something else but we have resorted to Magic Marker to label them and just cross it out when we change contents. Overall, they are our box of choice for pricing and space efficiency.

could be better

these are o.k. but the problem is that the vertical base design is slightly flawed. the idea for the top is to allow stackability, but because this is so tall, it threatens bulging inward. another problem is that not much fits neatly inside of it, and therefor waste space, instead i recommend the 14 gallons, they are more stable and fit in tidier places
the benefit of this bin is if you are storing liquids, then you are able to hold more, but i still feel that it is less stable.

Lid doesn't fit storage perfectly
on January 20, 2010

I was on the market for storage, and someone recommended me this product. I bought 8 of them. When I was at home, I put the lid on every storage, 5 lids would not fit storage box perfectly (they did not lock at all - either the lids were too small or a bit too big). I went to the store to exchange them. Please make sure to put and lock the lid to the storage box to see that they fit before you leave the store to prevent you from having this problem. When I was at the store to exchange this products, I met with 2 customers who had similar problem.
