Works great if you build your entire closet system around it. The basket is 23.5" wide. That means it fits between two uprights that are 24" apart. Unfortunately nothing else that Rubbermaid sells is this width. Whether you use the "Classic Closet Kit", the "Deluxe Closet Kit", or the "homefree SERIES Adjustable Closet System"; all rails are set at 22" inches apart. Luckily I bought these first and then setup the rest of the closet around them. Link to Rubbermaid Installation Instructions. http://www.rubbermaid.com/en-US/assembly-instructions Good Luck everyone!

Unusual design

For some reason the mounting rails must be spaced at 23 1/2 inches, which is a really odd measurement and there are NO INSTRUCTIONS that I could find that specified that distance. I hung my bars at 24 and only 1/2 of each bracket fit into the track.
The instructions on the back of the hardware package suggests bars at every 16"
Also there is a very small screw metal thread that holds the brackets to the frame and they can easily be stripped if tightened to much. A machine screw w/ an nut would be much more sturdy. I am sure the drawer will come off the frame at some point in the future.

The Homefree and Configurations Closet Kits include upright spacing information in the assembly instructions; the accessories do not currently reference such information.
When using the Configurations or Homefree accessories on our FastTrack, Configurations, or Homefree uprights, the uprights need to be spaced 22" apart (measured from inside to inside on the uprights).

this basket slides very nice and works well the only drawback is the brackets should have been made to have a shelf above if so desired

Sorry to disagree with you Rubbermaid, but no where on the instruction sheet included with the 3J05 sliding basket does it state anywhere on it that the brackets need to be 22" apart from inside to inside vertical bracket. Maybe you need to rewrite your instructions to include that fact. Also it does not state anywhere how wide the brackets need to be at all.

I bought the fast track system a week ago and installed 5 baskets myself with absolutely no problem. The beauty of this system is that everything is adjustable. Why would anyone permanently attach the uprights before making sure their accessories would attach properly? I had no problems installing this system and the baskets work perfectly.

We have used these baskets for more than 5 years in our hall closet for mittens and hats. They have withstood the abuse of children and too much stuff jammed into them. Our closet is only 27 inches deep with double sliding doors, so we had to be careful where we placed the vertical brackets. We use the rubbermaid closet system in all of the closets. With a little pre-planning, this system was easy to install and has withstood the test of time.

Great Concept

The review by RobS is correct. If the spacing between the uprights for the basket is 22" then there is a gap of 1.5 inches...as measured on the box. The response from Rubbermaid state "...the accessories do not currently reference such information." Can you at least put the information on the website? By doing so it certainly would let us know that we have to purchase another upright in order to install it at 23.5" since the uprights already installed are 16" apart. Thanks.

Not"compatible with any Rubbermaid Configurations"

I ordered the 3-6 foot closet Deluxe Configurations kit, and it was a breeze to install. I thought the sliding basket would be great under one of the shelves as a sock drawer! The spacing for the rails for the Configurations kit is 22 inches apart. Piece of cake. I had all brackets and shelves hung and then put together the basket. I went to attach the brackets into the rails, too wide. The basket is 23.5 inches wide. The brackets affix to the outside of the sliding frame. So the brackets end up not fitting into the vertical rails. I did make it fit, but the support brackets are held into the vertical rails but the inside "claw" of each support on the outside hole of the rail. The basket is great, but is not really "compatible" with the spacing of the closet kit. it is not possible to follow Rubbermaid's directions of spacing the rails 22 inches apart and make a 23.5 inch basket fit.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Rubbermaid regarding your sliding wire basket.
The Configurations/HomeFree accessories are compatible with any Configurations or HomeFree closet kit or open stock hardware. The uprights must be spaced 22" apart from inside to inside. If you spaced the uprights 22" apart from the outer portion of the upright then the spacing is not going to be the full 22" the accessory requires. The measurements of this accessory are 23.5"W x 7.25"H x 17.5"D which includes the frame. The actual basket is 22.25" wide.
