Terrible Feature and product upgrade

JBL just ruined their products. They decided to rebrand the connect+ feature as “party boost” and discontinued support of the now legacy connect+ feature. What a terrible brand move. I own a lot of apple products and even my old iPad mini still supports all the apple features across ALL my old and new products. Makes my life Simple and keeps me brand loyal. Now I have some older JBL speakers that can’t pair with this JBL Flip 5. Never buying JBL again.

It's time to move on

The reign of JBL Flip has come to an embarrassing end. The removal of listening versatility by the choice to change the long-standing two-axis symmetric speaker position to an asymmetric orientation massively reduces the sound quality and versatility. If you ever enjoyed listening to your JBL Flip speaker in "landscape mode" (with the speaker horizontal on a surface), the sound stage in this position is ruined in the JBL Flip 5 generation and on. In technical terms, they changed the JBL Flip in-built speaker orientation by removing an axis of reflectional symmetry, to promote (and restrict) the speaker to only be used in the vertical orientation (nb: you're out of luck on any uneven or soft surface).
This change was made without any public notice regarding the change in the sound design. An incredible disappointment as a past owner and avid user of JBL Flip 3 and 4 speakers - the new JBL Flip 5 generation shows a purposeful attempt to reduce the functionality of the JBL Flip line in an effort to push larger JBL portable speakers and/or multiple copies of JBL Flip 5 speakers for listening to a symmetric sound stage. These were the sole two recommendations I received from JBL Flip support *after* they improperly diagnosed my warranty request about the asymmetric speaker orientation as a defect. My JBL Flip 5 was purchased through an Amazon retailer in June 2022 and replaced directly by JBL, in error, in July 2022 via warranty (removing my ability for a retailer return).
And now to be petty: With such a drastic change to the listening capability of this device, why have they forgotten to rotate the orientation of the JBL symbol to be read from the actual (vertical) speaker orientation?

Do not personalize JBL paint sucks

I purchased my personalized flip 5 in July 2022 I haven't mistreated this speaker> the one star is for the crappy paint that is on the personalized speaker. the sound is not as loud because of all the extra paint.

Great product

I bought this speaker about two years ago, this past just we had it on our roof top watching fireworks and listening to music. I accidentally left it on the rooftop from July and found the speaker in November. In those month it had rained, hailed, high winds. In my mind I thought that I would have to buy a new jbl flip speaker, I rapped in a blanket for about two days. Remarkably, when I turned on the speaker it turned on, it is still in great shape…thank you JBL for making a great product!

Love my speaker

I recieved my speaker as a gift. JBL Flip 5 is my favorite motivator to get stuff done. There is nothing better to connect your music and listen threw this speaker. The Flip 5 has a clear crisp sound. You can control the volume by either your phone or the speaker. The Flip 5 is very easy to connect and use. I love the volume on it because I can blast some jams to get me motivated to do house work.

Don’t buy the personalized one

Just received my speaker and as always sound quality is good. But don’t buy the personalized one. They just put a paint on it that is not worth the money. Literally opened the package and the paint stuck to the styrofoam case thing.

It’s great, I’m just confused why they got rid of the stereo. Stereo is clearer, which is why I’m glad and excited that they brought it back with the Flip 6.
