911 RSR Not up to Porsche
on July 31, 2020

I found the build to be enjoyable. Not very challenging but a few instructions needed studying. The final product I was rather disappointed with. Some aspects are just not true representations of the actual car. They could have done better like the GT3. But for the money, it was worth it. Look forward to the next Porsche. Hopefully a classic.

A must have for Porsche enthusiasts. A great way to see the placement of the mid engine flat six in the new 911 race car. Not as complex as the GT3 RS but still fun none the less.

Great Build, Challenging, Worth the Cost

I am relatively new to the Lego family (although my older son has been building sets for years and was a big influence on me to start building)...In my youth (68 yrs. old) I would spend hours upon hours of building, painting, etc. plastic models of all kinds of things...but cars models were my favorite..believing I was still good with my hands, I tackled this very detailed, Technic set...truth be told – (I had built the VW Bug - 1,167) prior to doing this build...
What a blast! it definitely brought me back to my youth...the attention to detail is remarkable...steering works, pistons go up and down, etc. it was an approximately a 21 hour build (quarantined and doing it like a puzzle - passing it and doing a small sections at a time)...the build difficulty was on a 4-5 level...I have ordered the light package (through Brick Tool) and can't wait until it comes to put a finishing touch on this build...the down side was the bags were not numbered - but I had purchased a puzzle board, so I could spread the pieces from the bags in piles, etc. I also anticipated doing a lot more big builds...
Needless to say, I hooked and already on the "slippery slope" of Legos...no surprise here...I have 3 additional "big" builds on the way...

Don’t underestimate this one: very challenging!

These 10 and 11+ Technic sets should not be underestimated — very challenging for adult builders, too! The challenge is why I so enjoy these sets, and this one is no exception. Didn’t like having all the pieces in unmarked/unnumbered bags as I think that adds a needless amount of tedious complexity. That said, the challenge is part of the fun so if that sounds like a good time to you, this set won’t disappoint.

Impressive

Tremendously fun to build!!! Slightly challenging, as expected, but that's what I expect from a 1500+ piece set! I have spent way too much time admiring it sitting on my dining room table. One comment (not an actual complaint), the bags aren't numbered, so it took 18 ziploc bags, both 1-gallon and snack sized, and took up the entire table while building. It was still ridiculous amounts of fun, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Strongest possible recommendation.

Bargain with a price

When it comes to Technic sets, this is one of those you MUST be willing to spend some extra time and brain power on. Comparing to a set like the Peugeot 9X8, the Porsche was more of an archaic adventure. 1st, none of the bags are sorted or numbered with the instructions. So you must open and hand sort all of your parts manually. 2nd, many of the instructions image examples were very tricky to see which resulted in the need to disassemble and flip back several pages to correct the misplace parts. 3rd, the overall completed build was decent but the mechanics don’t work right after completion. For example, the gears that connect the engine to the gear box grind when the car is rolled. Though when the wheels are hand spun, it appears to operate fine. For the price and part count, it’s clear why this set was so much less than the Peugeot. In comparison, the Peugeot was one of the most pleasurable and satisfying builds I’ve works on to date. This Porsche, it’s neat, cool looking when done but I would never do it again.
