Design flaw

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had an annoying problem with this Dishwasher until I read several other reviews about the same problem, one of the reviewers had a cause which gave me a solution! The Problem: After running the Dishwasher and opening the door you will find that the Soap dispenser still has about 80% of the soap remaining. What's worse is that the residue is running down onto the silverware so you have to rinse and dry the silverware before putting it away! One reviewer stated that the cause of this was the silverware blocking the water jet that sprays the soap dispenser. With that info, I swapped the silverware dispensers from top to bottom. The top tray has an open section to allow the water jet to reach the soap dispenser and Viola! No more left over residue! There is a drawback to this change, the knives have to go in the bottom because the top does not have enough clearance. as for other aspects, The Dishwasher is very quiet and does a very good job of cleaning! I hope this review helps others who have already purchased or are about to purchase this Dishwasher.

Don't Waste Your Money

We have had this dishwasher for 2.5 years, and it will be replaced this week. Poor design does not allow you to use all silverware slots. If you use them all, they block the soap dispenser from fully opening. That's been a daily issue, however as of today, the water pump is no longer working. I'm left hand washing dishes for a family of 4, including 2 toddlers. Not even worth having a repairman out to look at...I will never purchase another GE appliance again.

Revising my negative review

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Following my initial complaint that dishes were not dried, a technician was sent. He reprogrammed the computer settings and ordered a part. The difference, even without the new part, is amazing. Initially, dishes were dripping with water after an almost three-hour cycle. Silverware was worse. Now the dishes and silverware are almost all dry. I'm sure that with the new part to be delivered later this week we will again have a dishwasher that works very well. Thanks to GE for the prompt and efficient service!

Quiet!

We bought this for the cost. We were tired of spending large amounts of money for appliances with a life expectancy of 5-7 years. This is definitely a "no frills' dishwasher. The best feature is the noise level. When we first started using it, we could be in the same room and not even know it was running. We've had it about 4 months now and the volume, at times throughout a wash cycle, has increased but still is much quieter than my older, more expensive dishwasher. The quietness may be from increased insulation because the inside does not hold as many dishes as my previous model. With lots of experience, now, at loading and unloading this one, I have managed to find a style that gets as much in as possible. For large meals with lots of pots and pans, I have to run two loads. I do rinse all my dishes before loading; I've found that flat food, such as noodles or minced onions, get stuck to the backs of plates or the sides of knives. I've also eliminated one of the baskets for utensils. The bottom basket interfered with the opening of the soap dispenser and I had a load of dishes go through the entire wash and rinse cycle with no soap. After that, I use only the top basket. Plastic items do not dry, therefore I remove them from the top rack AFTER removing dishes from the lower rack...to avoid spilling water on the dry glass plates and bowls. I just keep a drying rack on my kitchen counter and allow the plastic items to air dry for a couple of hours. The cycle times seem long: 165 minutes for regular cycle, 133 for light cycle; heavy with sanitize and steam can be as high as 220 minutes. The hidden buttons and time can be a little inconvenient, but an angled look at the top of the door can reveal "time remaining", plus opening and closing door to see time is simple with just a press of the "start" button before closing to restart the cycle where it stopped. All in all, if given the opportunity again, I would make the same purchase. The value is worth the little inconveniences. The purchaser just needs to know that a period of personal adjustment should to be expected with this product.

Love how quiet it is!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like having the utensils right in the front to load and unload. On the old dishwasher with the loading on the side everyone was lazy and would keep putting them all together not separating them enough, with it right up front there has been no problem now. Nice feature!

Awesome Cleaning power - Very Quiet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There's nothing I hate worse than having to wash dishes before putting them in the dishwasher ! This model does a fantastic job of scouring everything clean (especially if you use the temperature boost).
The controls are clean and simple to operate. It is easy to figure out all of the functions without reading a manual.
Sound Level - Seriously, the room must be virtually silent to hear this unit running ! It is whisper quiet.
Finally - the interior layout is wonderful as all normal sized pans will fit upright without blocking the arms. All of our cake pans and casserole dishes fit as well as our large 32 oz ice tea glasses.
As for Value, I dropped one bar just because this is not an entry priced unit - BUT - We considered the less expensive 540 model as well but decided we wanted the steam feature. Overall, this unit is probably the best dishwasher we have ever owned. I'm somewhat of a tightwad and don't like spending extra money on useless features - but I'm glad we did get this model instead of a more entry level unit.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Doesn't clean dishes and does not dry.

This dishwasher has only been used three times. Dishes, especially flatware was not cleaned. After heated dry, everything was still wet. GE said it was a known problem and that they had a drying kit that would fix the problem. The GE authorized repairman installed the kit and now the dishwasher won't even turn on. I've had this dishwasher for 30 days and all it is doing is taking up space.

Excellent except for drying function

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Dishwasher cleans very well and is very quiet in operation, but washed items have not been dry after washing even though heated dry is selected. This seems to be a function of the venting outlet (options selected: AutoSense, Steam, Water Temp/Boost, and Heated Dry).
If I dry the vent -- remove the accumulated moisture on the dishwasher surface over the vent and in the exterior vent grate (using a Q-tip to dry the vent grate from the exterior of the dishwasher) -- several times during ( 3 times is sufficient) the wash and dry cycles, the items in the dishwasher are dry (though all the surfaces of the interior are not dry).
If I don't dry the vent outlet, the utensil racks are extremely wet (items in the racks are mostly dry, though the become wet while being removed from the wet racks) and a minority of the other items in other section might be wet in some minor areas where water is easily retained.
Note: I haven't tried all the dishwasher options (e.g., no Water Temp/Boost), so there might be other ways of getting the interior items to dry without drying the vent.
