BOX LIDS THAT BREAK WITH AGE

My ten year old file boxes with hinged lids are not aging well the semi clear lids begin to disintegrate. Can I buy lids to replace them?

I was looking for this type of hanging file box to store my graduate school course notes in. After shopping the usual office supply stores and finding their selection costing more than I wanted to invest in the project, I came across the Sterilite model 1868 for a reasonable price. The quality wasn't the same as ones costing 2-3 times as much, but these are not designed for the abuse that offices give their files. So, I purchased four and packed them up. They are full and pretty heavy. Stacked three high in the closet. As others have noted, the lids are pretty flimsy, so we will see how they manage the weight over time. I may be pushing the limit on what this box and lid are designed to handle. Probably two high would be better, but don't have the space. I am hoping that being indoors in a climate controlled closet, they will last a few years. I am hoping not to find cracks and breaks.

This is the best product for storing papers. I fit letter size and with gentle folding so as not to crease I even store legal and tabloid size. and they stack nicely without falling into each other. very strong. water rppof, bug proof. it's just the best paper storage box on the market!

Good product could be great

I bought these at a local store and they came with clear lids. I loved the fact that the clear box and lid allowed me to see which files were in which box at a glance. Now I can only find black lids and miss being able to evaluate the contents at a glance. Is there any possible way to order these with clear lids?

This week I bought several of these file boxes to transfer my office files to our new home. I especially like that the 18.5 x 14 x 11 inch dimensions can handle either letter or legal sized files and are also designed to accommodate standard as well as or hanging files. The see-through plastic is very convenient, too. Unfortunately the lid is made from a particularly brittle type of plastic and breaks extremely easily. When I picked up the black lid to close the box, it slipped from my hand and shattered into several pieces. I don't know if the clear box is also prone to shatter as easily since I didn't drop one and don't intend to test it, but I will handle them very carefully in future to avoid future breakage.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have purchased several of these file boxes and find them very, very useful for my home office. They accommodate just enough files to make them very portable, and their see-through feature makes it quite easy to see what I am looking for before even open the box. They are quite stackable and just an excellent addition to the storage component of my office. Thank you!

This is cheap, durable, excellent quality, multiuse , and not just to file cabinet, I found Xmas stuff saver too, clothes saver and much more. This would be awesome if Sterilite create a CABINET with this drawers. I definitely buy it.
