Half the wifi failed 3 months after the warranty expired.
Certain wireless devices would connect, but lots of my other devices wouldn't any longer. Tried factory resets, new and older (all versions) firmware, all to no avail. It's toast. Pretty bummed for it to happen to a high end router that wasn't cheap.
It's a Qualcomm chipset therefore isn't supported by asuswrt-merlin firmware.

Router went bad after 3 months. Asus sent a replacement router as they could fix not the defective router. The replacement router was defective out of the box, same issue. ASUS has serious quality control issues. I hate to say this, but I do not recommend ASUS routers anymore after using them for the past 15 years. ASUS clearly is going with the cheapest manufacturing and is not performing adequate quality checks over their products. A long term customer who is moving on to another brand.

Excellent Wifi and wired performance with great features. However, my first unit bricked during a firmware upgrade so I have a little regarding the product quality.

I turned to the Asus RT-AX89X because I wanted a dual band system with plenty of 1Gb ports to power an AIMesh system for a larger house. I put it in a corner of the house where an Octopus from Outer Space would look cool. My other two mesh nodes are RT-AX86U's one it the Kitchen and one in the Living room of a 4,000 sqft house. My Xfinity Gigabit service gives me >930Mbps to the desktop, but even my wireless clients see between 700Mbps-800Mbps as I wander about the house. No complaints here. Recently I upgraded to a Multi-Gig service and use a 10G/2.5G switch to connect the Motorola 8611 Modem to the RT-AX89X with 2.5G links down to the AX86U nodes.
I considered a tri-band system as I previously had an Asus RT-AC5300 - but since I had all wired backhauls for the mesh, the added band was a complication, not a virtue. I was curious about a pair of XT8 units for the RT-X86U nodes - but was able to buy the full meal deal 86's for less.

This is by far hands down the absolute best WIFI 6 router on the market currently! 2 10gig ports (1 copper and 1 SFP+) 2.2GHz quad core processor with a built in fan and running a Qualcomm chip set! What?? This thing is an absolute BEAST my friend and we’ll worth the price tag! People that are say that it is over priced obviously are not aware of this routers capabilities! Do your homework and research before you talk down on absolute phenomenal product! Keep up the good work ASUS, you definitely have my business!!

The RT-AX89X is what I needed to get my new AT&T fiber network up and running with 2.5gps speed! Using the two (2) 10gps ports I was able to use one for the WAN input and the other for the 2.5gps LAN output. Setup was relatively easy as I was migrating from an RT-AC5300. It's also nice to have WiFi 6ax... The only reason I didn't give this four (4) stars, was the 10gps Ethernet port is really sensitive to any movement, the slightest touch or movement causes it to drop connection, weird. I'm trying several different Cat 6A cables , but so far it remains the weak link on this otherwise really nice ASUS router! BTW, AIMesh works flawlessly (it's just a pain to setup).

Falsely advertised as 10G! Can only muster 1.6G hardwired; wi fi is 3G on a 10G plan and wi fi should NEVER be faster than hardwire. Will switch to Netgear Nighthawk wi fi 7 router if not resolved
