Bought this unit just over a month ago. My master bedroom is always just a little cooler in the winter than the rest of the house. This was purchased to supplement that room -- and it delivers perfectly!

The Good and the Bad

I suppose the important thing is that the Velocity 3 heats a small bedroom well. No complaints there. But the rest I'm not happy with. First, right out of the box, the heater had a strong odor. It's difficult to describe, but I will call it sort of an electrical smell. Needless to say, when switched on, the heater emitted this terrible odor. After about a month of use several times a week, it has only now started to fade. I can still smell it, though! My other disappointment are the controls. I never would have purchased this heater had I known how poorly they are designed! The thermostat control button is a good size...a feature I will never use. The button to actually turn on the heater is tiny! It's designed for tiny little fingers! It is very strange. It's also nearly impossible to read the low, medium, and high, because the print is so small as well. I just memorized that. But the control knob sizes should have been reversed. I just can't even believe how poorly thought out this was. I bought this to replace an old VH2 model which had begun to fail. I like the square shape of the Velocity better, and the heat output is good, but the strong odor and control designs are not good. It appears this may be a new model. There were no reviews yet when I purchased mine. I typically like to read reviews. Recommended with reservations.

Great for cold days

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I get so cold here living in Minnesota. My master bedroom feels just like ice castle. And this heater became a lifesaver! This throws out quite of heat for how small it is. Very nice design, pretty quite with nice features like tip-over protection! Wonderful space heater to keep my room warm without increasing my thermostat!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Vornado velocity Tunes Heat for quite a while now. I love the simplicity, durability, compactness, and the tip over protection Auto shut-off. It has 3 heat settings low medium high it does produce 30% more heat and it comes out a lot more faster and it goes a lot more further. I love how its got the tip over protection shut off that if it gets knocked over if a dog goes by or anything like that it automatically shuts off. I love how this is when it's on it feels nice and cool to the touch I love how it also has like the built-in handle that you could carry this anywhere to heat any room. It's very easy an extremely simple to use plug it in turn on the setting and how much of the heat you want out. I have a friend of mine who came over and she seen it she has two small rooms and she bought this she loves it and it's perfect even being around her kids because of that auto shut-off feature this is a great item and I also love how it has a 5 year warranty guaranteed . I love the love the design. Love this product. thank you so much for this amazing opportunity. #Tryit

great for size, makes difference in small spaces

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This heater is great for small spaces. It puts out a decent amount of heat. I’ve been using it in my office and more recently in the garage when I work on my bike or truck. I would suggest it more to be used indoors. I noticed a huge difference in my office. It’s a great heater, especially for its size.

Incorrect Advertising

The pictures on the box show the heater forcing air across a room. I've owned a Vornado fan Type 530 for years and you can feel the air from it reach the other side of the room. So I expected air flow and lots of it. The air flow doesn't go even 2 feet in a still environment. It says it has Velocity Tuned Heat. That merely means that the speed of the fan makes the air feel warmer when going slower. So the High setting is a very slow fan velocity which makes the air feel hotter. The Low setting is the fastest which isn't fast at all. I'm returning this product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Small heater!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Vornado model Velocity 3 is a small compact heater measuring about 10” high by 8” wide by 7” deep. This heater has a knob with four positions: off, high, medium, and low. There is also a variable fan knob to select the air speed. When I first turned the Vornado heater on it had a plastic smell, but it went away after using it. Its safety features are tip over protection and if excessive heat is detected it will shut off. I like that the sides are cool to the touch and it turns off automatically if you must move it. The instructions are very clear as to where you should and shouldn’t use it and explains how to clean the heater when you store it. I would recommend to friends and family.

How did Vornado go so wrong?

We needed to replace a VH200 whole room heater and I picked this up in a hurry at Kohls assuming that it would be a suitable replacement for that now discontinued unit. Sad to say it is not. It appears that Vornado spent a bunch of money on fancy new marketing with minimal product development.
Good: Heats up quickly, puts out strong heat, pushes heat further into the room
Bad:
1) By far the biggest problem are the physical controls. There is a cheap, difficult to grasp, finicky dial that is used to power the fan on and select the heat setting. Anyone with say arthritis or any dexterity issues at all should stay away from this. The thermostat knob is a smooth, cheap feeling plastic knob. On the VH200 both controls were chunky and easy to operate (and power was separate).
2) This unit needs the tip over detection as it's seemingly designed to tip over. It took determination to make a box this wobbly. Isn't the best way to prevent it from tipping over in the first place to make it stable? Again, earlier Vornado designs are very stable.
3) VH200 (as advertised) is whisper quiet. Perfect for our nursery. This is rather loud (and yes the fan does blow harder but it's loud and not well isolated from the chassis).
4) Poorly finished edges - if you run your hand around the back edge of the handle you'll immediately find sharp edges everywhere. Ouch.
